Donald Trump at High Point University

Trump spoke for about 30 minutes to a crowd of 2,000 people at HPU, most of which were college students. He talked about last weekend's terrorist attacks in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota, saying an improved immigration system is a national security issue.

He said in the past, the United States has defeated Nazism, Fascism and Communism. He says now is the time to defeat radical Islamic terrorism.

Trump also brought up Clinton's controversial statement where she said half of Trump's supporters can be placed into what she called "a basket of deplorables." Trump said Clinton talks worse about his supporters than she does about terrorists.

"She calls the patriotic Americans who support our campaign, many of them cops and soldiers, deplorable and irredeemable. Has she ever talked that way about radical Islam or those who oppose and murder women and gays overseas? No," said Trump.

So.. my son is a student at HPU, I think I've mentioned that before. He had tickets to see Trump - who I believed was supposed to speak at 12:30. My son had class until 11 and couldn't get in because they stopped letting people in at 10:30.

He was pissed. The crowd was enthusiastic and packed into Millis Hall. There are only 4,500 students or so at HPU so essentially almost half the campus heard him speak and there were about a thousand more outside. I have to talk to my son later to see if he was able to hear any of the speech and find out what the atmosphere was like. The energy surely seems palpable from here.

I just figured I'd share some (semi) first hand insight to this article.

In contrast, the other day Clinton drew 200 at Temple.

High Point North Carolina.

Gorgeous area right in the Piedmont Triad.... though I still really haven’t figured out what that means. :)

To me, Piedmont is a great Italian wine region.

Urban is Democrat but their Congressman is solid Republican and has been since the 80’s.

It's called the Piedmont region because we are at the foot of the Appalachian mountains. "Triad" refers to the three city area of Greensboro-Winston Salem-High Point.

“He said in the past, the United States has defeated Nazism, Fascism and Communism. He says now is the time to defeat radical Islamic terrorism. “

Correction. We did not defeat communism. It’s alive and well in our universities and a good portion of congress, among other places.

“The goal of Socialism is Communism”

Well, I’m not sure. But the last time I was down there (the I-81 Corridor) all I saw was Trump signs, bumper stickers, flags, banners. It was amazing given that, to hear that NC is in play. I certainly couldn’t tell from that area.

Makes perfect sense because Piedmont means “at the foot of the mountains” in Italian.

Pied = foot, mont = mountain; at the foot of the mountains. It’s a geographical region of not just Italy but also the US southeast and mid-Atlantic. Gently rolling terrain between the mountains and coastal plain.

Triad = three. Metropolitan area with three cities in NC. In addition to High Point: Greensboro and Winston-Salem.
