Are National Anthem Protests Costing NFL Viewership?
CBS Detroit ^ | 20 Sept 2016 | Christy Strawser

Posted on 09/21/2016 10:29:06 AM PDT by hawaiianninja

(WWJ) James Olson, a Sports Illustrated subscriber since fourth grade, watches action-packed NFL games on TV to escape from the endless round of political bickering playing out on other channels.

But with more national anthem protests cropping up, he feels like politics has taken over his favorite sport, too. So he’s tuning out.

“I want to say to these guys ‘If you weren’t playing in the NFL, you would be working at McDonalds. I think people have had it,” said, Olson, a Birmingham, Mich., resident.

This whole thing is a case of theatrics, not conscience. Other athletes jumping on the wagon are doing it for the attention.

A high school team doing the knee is immitating, not leading. It is simple hero worship from a bunch of wannabes craving attention. Statistically, none of them will ever get into the NFL and after they graduate no one will remember their names either.

Bruce Springsteen's "Glory Days" best describes that scenario.

My team has done nothing the last 15 years, so I am nearly done with them anyway.

The whole Kaepernick thing, the commercialism, the long time needed to watch a game - has all turned me off the NFL even more.

All of this has just put me over the edge with the entire NFL.

MSM are the enemies of the people. They will do anything to get the Ad and other revenue directly and indirectly from the NFL. I don’t expect honesty from them on this issue.

NFL Done in this house.

They lost me. And I enjoyed the extra free time on Sunday and Monday night the last 2 weeks so I’m probably not coming back. In previous years I “reserved” Sunday afternoon/evening and Monday night for football.

Not that I matter, but if enough other people are like me they better be gaining a lot of new America-hating viewers who didn’t watch football before to make up for it. My guess is most of the new viewers turn in for the American-hating during the anthem then go do something else so they aren’t gaining viewers of the game even if the pregame viewership doesn’t go down.

Not a down, not a dime. I don’t need political instruction from post-adolescent millionaires who chase rubber balls for a living.

Unless you are a Nielson family and/or a paid subscriber to the games, how does the NFL know that you are boycotting them? Is there another way they can gauge the number of viewers for any given game? (Of course I realize you can write or call or contact sponsors.)

I’ve also turned off FNC except for Judge Pirro.

Me too, can’t stand any of them. They might as well bring back colmes and give juan the pervert his own show.

The icing on the cake is that an NFL boycott also hurts the media.

Let’s face it, it’s going to be tough to get people to quit watching their favorite football teams.

However, this is an issue made for Trump. During the first debate, he should bring up the issue and call for everyone who thinks that citizens of this country should, as a matter of course, both stand for the national anthem, and say the pledge of allegiance when others are saying it.

It fits right in with his position that if you think sharia law should replace constitutional law, you shouldn’t qualify for being granted citizenship.

To be clear,I’m not saying you should take citizenship away; I’m talking about granting it to an immigrant. But the NFL can damn sure that the public displays of disrespect don’t appear during NFL games. That’s within their rights.

So, Trump debates on a Monday night. The second debate is on Tuesday of the following week. He should consider calling for every single person who disagrees with the NFL decision to allow this nonsense to continue to simply not watch the next Monday night game. Then come to the debate Tuesday with the results. I’m betting viewership would be down 50% or more and the NFL would get the message, particularly if Trump said, “I’m going to keep doing this guys, until you fix it.”

I won’t watch until they figure out what nation they are the National Football League of.

Was a Packer fan since the Lombardi days.

It’s not just the Kaep thing. It’s the slobbering embrace by the NFL of the whole cultural marxist agenda.

“Are National Anthem Protests Costing NFL Viewership?”

I surely hope so. Political protests have no place in athletic contests, in a truly free society. There is sufficient dissent between the partisans of each team, without dragging politics or divergent morality into it.

The ode to national unity and purpose, which is expressed with the National Anthem, is intended to indicate our common heritage as Americans.

Set, match, play, and let the scoreboard reveal the advantage or shortcomings. This other crap can take place out on the street.
