Why aren’t I 50 points ahead?
This is an interesting sentence on its own.
Converting the contraction back to its prime form
give us this sentence:
“Why are not I 50 points ahead?”
or, rearranged, “Why are I not 50 points ahead?”
So, dropping the contraction requires changing from ‘are’ to ‘am.’ Why am I not 50 points ahead?”
I feel sorry for people who have to learn English from scratch.
