"But, according to Col. (res.) Eyal Efrati, that is not the primary cause. Efrati had served as head of MAMDA, the IDF Behavioral Sciences Department, and today provides personnel selection services to most of the civilian security agencies.
"The situation is not about to change as long as regular service individuals at the age of 22-23 feel ashamed to wear their IDF uniforms in public in the civilian environment. The public image of the regular service is at an all-time low, not just because of the severe verbal attacks by Ministry of Finance officials.
"The problem is much more profound and stems from a profound change within Israeli society, as today, the Jewish mother does not really want her talented child to serve in IDF. The contract between Israeli society and the regular servicemen was violated, which will affect the quality of the regular (permanent) service cadre of IDF. This situation seems inevitable and its implications will be dramatic."
Sounds like USArmy 1972
I would guess that:
1) they are top heavy just like our services and the upper echelons aren’t doing as much (don’t know for sure if they have an up or out policy like ours) which would mean minimal career opportunities for more junior personnel finishing their initial commitments, and
2) they’re economy has done pretty well comparatively and their compensation is likely not tracking for retention.
just conjecture on my part.
Israeli society has a far higher proportion of Leftist liberals than the US. It isn’t surprising that the uniformed military is disparaged. It would be more surprising if it were not. I worked with lots of Israelis when I was employed by one of their defense contractors in the US. From that experience I was shocked that Israel had ever won a war. I can only guess that the Arabs are wildly inferior in every possible way. Of course, most of the Israelis I dealt with were straight from the University environments. The university environment is like a Skittles commercial with rainbows and unicorns.
The US is rapidly going their way with the school system openly denigrating patriotism, saying the pledge of allegiance, prayer...and, lastly we have the NFL. Incidentally, I recently read the NFL viewership has dropped 18% over the same period last year. Maybe market forces will prevail and the kneelers will get the boot.
One thing that could be done is to call the Israeli Army the Army
instead of IDF.
Have to wonder how much leftwing garbage is being pushed on these
company grade officers concerning diversity, queers, wymyns lib, etc.
It could be because these officers may think Netanyahu’s Government is backing the wrong side in the Syrian Civil War. U.S. servicemen are also quietly voicing the same concerns about the Obama Administration.
