Around NBA, teams already discussing need for social change
Breitbart/AP ^ | 9/23/2016 | staff

As NBA teams began gathering Friday to start training camps — three teams hold their first practices Saturday, while 27 others get going in the coming days — an issue each is addressing is how players and coaches can help create substantive change in cities across the country. The NBA and the players’ union urged teams this week to develop ideas in a memo this week.

“No one can be happy with what’s going on right now,” Van Gundy said Friday. “I like what (Golden State coach) Steve Kerr said. Wherever you are on the political spectrum, I don’t think a thinking person can say, ‘This isn’t a problem.’ I mean, we’re shooting unarmed people — and you’ve got to think largely, they are seen as threats largely because of their race. I mean, it’s hard to fathom.”

Finding that solution won’t be easy.

“I don’t have an answer. Nobody has an answer,” Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook said. “If that was the case, we would have fixed it.”

NBA players are millionaires with a lifestyle that many of us can only dream of.

Why would they want to hitch themselves to the social justice wagon? They should be out telling young blacks that if they work hard at what they do, they too can get out of the ghetto and make beaucoup bucks.

Sonnie Johnson was on Breitbart radio one morning and she described how she learned about capitalism, not through Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity, but through hip-hop music (Jay-Z). Many FReepers might not like hip-hop music, and I agree that most of it is crap, but these artists sold mixtapes out of their trunks hustling and doing live shows at small venues and negotiating million-dollar record deals. They should be applauded and held up as an example to the black communities.

True. For now you can just turn it off. I have to admitt I don’t like sports my husband does and usually watches sports endlessly. Now he is scaling back because of the players and what they are doing and now he is getting to his honey do list,

Van Gundy and Kerr already sound like their @sses have been whipped by BLM and the faux justice refrain. Didn’t watch much of the NBA anyway.

The sooner that black professional athletes realize they’re just being used by the left, the same left that hates American sports and doesn’t care if this destroys them, the better off they’ll be. They’ve got it very good, multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts to play a sport for the cameras, to amuse their fans. Those same fans do not tune in for yet another politically-motivated harangue, they tune in more for an escape from it than anything else. They’re about to kill the goose that lays their own golden eggs, here, and seem oblivious to that fact.

If professional sports leagues are going to become SWJs, they can just disband now. They will hemorrhage fans and viewers. Just play your damn sports. People don’t attend/view sports to talk politics and certainly not to have it shoved in their faces.

Why would the NFL go out of it’s way to offend and pi$$ of 77% of it’s customers? The owners of the teams are in the process of getting an economics lesson about customer service.

The NBA, who cares about the Thug Olympics anyway?

The NBA pulls this crap and they will go the way of the NFL = their viewership ratings will spiral into the toilet and their advertising revenue's will plummet.

To quote Clint Eastwood: "Go ahead punk, make my day!"

I used to say, “Nobody wants to pay to watch me do accounting. Why would I pay to watch somebody play basketball?” Even if I want to watch basketball, I can watch a high school game for free.

I don’t watch NFL or NBA. I don’t begrudge anyone watching or not watching them. My game is MLB, but I know every MLB front office is just as liberal loving as the other two big pro sports. The only difference is MLB players can self police themselves as far as jerky celebration dances and chest slapping displays over routine plays.

And the culture of the players maybe. NFL and NBA have a lot more US blacks playing in them. If most of the players want to protest, and they have a union, it’s a hard decision for ownership I guess if the players want to push it that far. It is a business.

I used to fill out tax forms 10 hours a day for my job. Other people play basketball for their jobs. Nobody was interested in paying to watch me to do my job. I’m not interested in paying to watch basketball player do their job.

Everyone has different tastes, of course. I’ll pay to watch the Gipsy Kings or the Steeldrivers play music.

What about all of those millions they get to endorse those over-priced sneakers and other gear? They should forgo that money so buying the gear isn't such a financial burdened on their fans in challenged environments.

Just trying to be helpful here....

Dear NBA players, why not take 3/4 of your pay and give it to kids in the inner cities? Why not mentor them and show them how to use a gun to hunt animals, not other blacks.

What are you going to do with your millions...spend it on drugs??
