WASHINGTON — Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson warned Sunday that Americans should be “particularly careful” shopping at malls this weekend following a specific terrorist threat.
Terrorist group al-Shabaab released a video calling for attacks on shopping malls in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom, which included mention and images of the Mall of America in Minnesota.
“I would say that if anyone is planning to go to the Mall of America today, they’ve got to be particularly careful,” Johnson said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The al Qaeda-linked group was responsible for the deadly Nairobi, Kenya, mall attack in 2013. The Mall of America has responded by beefing up security.
Johnson said federal authorities are taking the threat “seriously” and asked Americans to be more “vigilant.” If they see something suspicious, Johnson said, they should say something.
The threat, much like the social media calls from ISIS, represents “the new phase” in the war on terror in which foreign terrorists call for domestic sympathizers to carry out attacks in their homelands. “We’re beyond the phase now where these groups would send foreign operatives into countries after being trained someplace,” Johnson said.

Carry, by all means. Any decent conceal-carry holster should keep your little secret safe and secure.
And really, what is the likelihood of getting caught? They don’t have metal detectors (that I’ve ever seen, anyway) and mall security is unlikely to do a “stop and frisk” on shoppers.
The worst that is likely to happen is they ask you to leave and escort you to the door. Or they might just thank you and ask you to aim carefully if worst comes to worst. You never know.
Better to have one and not need it ...
I haven’t been to a mall in years and have no desire to do so again. Have no desire to climb to the top of a football stadium and sit in the hot sun or the freezing rain. Have no desire to attend a concert with freaks yelling and screaming over the music. Have no desire to wander the crowded streets of Boston, NYC or Chicago. Throw in a few cretins with weapons and bombs out to kill anyone for no reason but to kill, no thanks.
Perhaps they just don't want to kill their own mamas?
Look for some small, out of the way mall full of whitebreads with no Somalis to blow up instead. Everybody else enjoy a peaceful Sunday afternoon at the MOA!
