I don’t assume the condition of the gun in the photo is necessarily the condition of the gun when the dude was carrying it. It seems logical to me that when the cops found the gun they cleared it to make it safe. There’s a good chance they dropped the mag and racked the slide to remove the round from the chamber. I don’t think the photo tells us anything about how the guy carried it.

If they had done that the cops would’ve put an ink pen or a chamber flag into the open action to indicate its “clear” status to other investigators. if the action is closed, that’s likely how they found it.

The picture of the gun was a crime picture. Why would they take a picture of the gun after an officer had handled it. That’s the way the gun looked when the officer kicked it aside

You know, where they pick up the gun with a pencil down the barrel ?
