The trees at Toomer's Corner after a game earlier in the season.
Butch Dill/AP
The toilet paper hanging from one of Auburn University's famed Toomer's Corner oak trees was set on fire late Saturday night and surveillance footage of the corner appears to show a person intentionally setting the fire.
The toilet paper celebration is a longstanding tradition at Auburn following wins by their football team.
Following Auburn's 18-13 upset win over No. 18 LSU, the toilet paper caught fire causing damage to the tree.

Read that they have a suspect in custody. 29 year old drunk, Auburn resident but not associated with the school.
Video of the fire;
WOW. That is terrible. Hope they catch whoever did it.
Police Pepper Sprayed McGill-Toolen Students After Cannon Painting Tradition
You’d think it would have a lot of layers of paint unless they remove the paint every so often.
The person has been arrested but no name released. Good.
It used to get pretty thick. I haven't been by there in a while now.

Let me know.
(My dad and mom met at Texas; but my Wife and I, most of our families and all kith and kin are A&M graduates.) My daughter, just to change things, got her masters in library science from Alabama’s on-line classes. Never spent time on the campus, doesn’t follow Alabama sports at all. But does like the seer-sucker hat she bought. 8<)
your daughters also do the “auburn thing” of stuffing the pom-poms in their boots on game day?
The poisoning of Toomer trees was out of bounds. I enjoy good competition fun like when Bama played “Take the money and run” and “Son of a Preacher Man” to welcome Cam Newton (that was excellent), the Bama DJ should have gotten a bonus for that.
I wish the best for Auburn and the Toomer Trees, they deserve it.
Ditto everything that you said.
No stuffing of pom pom’s in boots on game day as she was in AU Marching Band uniform. She marched first three years but due to co-op job @ chemical plant she didn’t get to march 4th year . . . thus taking 5 years to graduate with 3 co-op semester included.
She did get to fly to the National Championship game in Pasadena @ the Rose Bowl stadium . . . we lost :( . . . but they got to go to beach, Disneyland and fly back on her 20th birthday . . . we’d only been to WDW and big Disney fans so that was fun for her. Plus having been playing in the stands with the “one second” return against Bama that helped propel them to the Championship game that year.
BUT she did get married in May. Still has this year to go. And . . . drum roll . . . her husband is an Alabama graduate, computer science and he finished in 3 years.
I’m from TEXAS . . . Love A&M, Texas, TCU, SMU, Baylor, Rice, all of them~!!!!! Have family from all them so can’t not love any of the schools.
I hope they recycled that TP and send it to Venezuela!

A Bama fan but I think he was from out of state.
I agree, it’s low class and juvenile... surprised that this hasn’t happened before now. I’m an Alabamian, BTW.
It is a lousy juvenile tradition. And my mother who earned her MA there in 1966 agrees. Campus maintenance cleans the TP from the trees with fire houses. That can't be benign for the trees. Too bad they weren't in position earlier this time so the could put out the fire.
I havw full grown oak trees on my lot and I don’t think burning that toilet paper would do anything more than lightly singe the outermost layer of the bark.....they will survive even a medium forest fire.
It has happened before. A UGA fan tried it several years ago. It did not go well for him.
A big fire sprinkler at the very top of the tree.
