“Deplorable”: the call of the cynic. Cynical about what? About American society at large. Journalists are cynical because they are negative about American society (it’s their job; “if it bleeds, it leads” is no joke), and also because they claim objectivity. If you think negativity is objectivity, you are a certifiable cynic. And all journalists fit that description, and know it.

But the socialists - who are cynical about society - are naive about government.

SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. ...the “rant” of Rick Santelli in 2009 over Obama’s massive “stimulus” spending on infrastructure (sidewalks that went nowhere), “green energy” (Solyndra), and bribes to governors to participate in the federal takeover of education (Common Core)...and maybe most notably, that people were tired of paying taxes to cover their neighbors' mortgages when they couldn't afford their own (the outrage that led to the great economic collapse of 2008).....
