And yet 81 million people (the most ever) tuned in and even more watched on the Internet. There are tens of millions of eligible voters who don’t follow politics very closely but yet feel obligated to vote every four years in general elections.

The next debate is Oct. 9 at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri – This debate will take the form a town hall meeting. Half of the questions will be posed by citizen participants and the other half will come from the moderators. The candidates will have two minutes to respond and then an additional minute from the moderator for more discussion. The town meeting participants will be uncommitted voters selected by the Gallup Organization.
