I wonder if the ADL is aware that the whole notion of Pepe being some sort of racism symbol was a gag pulled on some highly gullible Salon writer a few months ago by a couple of pranksters? It’s just like Hillary’s “alt-right” bogeyman—it does not exist.

Pepe is merely a really ugly representation of a cute animal, used to illustrate various memes across the internet.

I just saw this garbage when I logged into Verizon to pay my phone bill.

It was followed in their “news headlines” by two other anti-Trump stories.

I tossed a few choice words at my screen and logged off without paying them.

Using this logic, someone could put swastikas on a rainbow, and then the rainbow could no longer be used by the LGBT people, because it then becomes a symbol of hate.

They guy who created the cartoon frog wasn't a racist and objected to the appropriation of his frog by racist groups (Maybe he should have taken out that "frog protection/fraud protection" insurance after all).

If that's even what happened -- the story was pumped up by jokers who wanted to push the whole Pepe-Nazi idea. There may be a lot less to it than some assume. The ADL even admits that most Pepe memes aren't racist or anti-Semitic.

Symbols are variable. What's to prevent the ADL from appropriating Pepe themselves? Putting him in a kippah. Showing him in Jewish holiday scenes.
