Spring Valley Line is NJT, not PATH.
At the Hoboken station, all the commuter trains come into a common area that is roofed over, but is not really much of a station. To get to the PATH, you have to walk a considerable distance and go down several flights of stairs.

Sounds like you are familiar with the system. I am wondering - I heard about many suspended lines - do they all come into this terminal?
