This just coming over the wire. A New Jersey Transit train crashed into a wall after entering the station in Hoboken around 8:30 a.m. It is unclear from earliest reports whether the train jumped the track, but according to live televised coverage by New York City Fox affiliate WNYW the roof over the passenger waiting area collapsed, resulting in serious injuries. The exact number and nature of those injuries have yet to be reported.
According to eyewitnesses, the train failed to slow down as it entered the station. One on-scene observer who witnessed the crash was WFAN anchor John Minko. he told reporters with CBS New York:
It simply did not stop. It went right through the barriers and into the reception area.
CBS further reports that images from the scene reveal “mangled metal, wires and debris scattered all over the floor.” A video posted by another individual who was present reveals the extent of the structural damage.

Yes, another disaster with NJ Transit close to NYC. The reports are extremely unhelpful as to what the hell happened.
Back in the 70s, the trains actually WERE from 1916. You had to open the windows on hot days.
I live in NJ. While no one knows the identity of the engineer I can tell you boatloads of swarthy, Middle-Eastern types drive fuel oil trucks and gasoline tankers all over this state.
I remember that! The seat covers were woven rattan.
I travelled for years by regional train to and from the main “Union Station” in downtown Toronto, and have been in both Grand Central Station and the main train station in Boston. At rush hour those platforms are packed and there would have been almost no time for people to react, or any place to hide. Prayers for those who were injured.

This happened to AMTRAK with a “gay” driver not too long ago.
Wild guess.... will be blamed on sleep apnea with a driver that has too high a BMI and worked too many hours.
That is the latest “toot” for NTSB safety issues...
I heard a couple of legit sounding callers to radio shows hint that the Philly derailment was a German Wings murder/suicide attempt because the engineer slammed on the emergency brake. The said they are trained NOT to do that because it makes the cars “pancake”.
Anybody here know about that?
