Jack Shafer was probably the only writer at Slate-with the exception of the late Christopher Hitchens-whose opinion I respected.

Jess Walker is an interesting writer as well. I still haven't read his book about conspiracy theories, The United States Of Paranoia, but have heard only good things about it.
