It Finally Happened: Politics Has Ruined Everything Fun
American Thinker ^ | October 3, 2016 | Peggy Ryan

Not that long ago, I could get away from the dystopian news environment and relax. I'd spend my weekends at the movies, chatting with friends over a latte or watching football on my oversized 4K TV, all things that bring a smile, take me away – just good old-fashioned fun. But one after another, these treasured pastimes have become something else – a reminder of the dark times we live in, another forum for angry political discourse. In their zeal to control every aspect of our lives, liberal activists have left no stone unturned.

My first casualty was the movies. Nothing saves you from reality more than a good flick. But one by one, my favorite Hollywood stars publicly inserted themselves into politics. Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Lawrence, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck are on the growing list of actors and actresses who feel compelled to take stands on issues that have nothing to do with their films.

Now, I'd like to be the bigger person and not let personal politics affect my entertainment choices, but the fact is, their foray into politics changes my perception. Now, instead of seeing these actors and actresses as the characters they so brilliantly portray, I see the man behind the curtain, the flawed person behind the illusion. Gone are the days when I can separate the activist actor from his performance. Now their reality is in my face.

And now it’s invaded that last bastion of manhood, sports.

I’m clearing about 25 acres of woods to make hiking and mountain biking trails.

No politics involved. Assuming the powers that be let me keep it, of course...

The EPA will be along soon to fine you $35,000 per day for something.

Yeah. In a similar vein, the scariest part of any movie I’ve seen is the first 15 minutes of Inglorious Basterds. You will be on their radar, no matter where you live.

I’ve given up on most of the magazines I read because of it.

Pop Sci
National Geographic
Pop. Mechanics.
The Economist
Businessweek
MAKE:
Wired
Macleans (they just became even more leftist)
AdAge
Entertainment Weekly (they actually used to make an effort to keep politics out)

There is no way I will pick those up ever again.

I’m down to history magazines, Family Handyman, Architect, Mental Floss (although they will likely go retard any minute now), and Sky & Telescope.

And they also put politics into films too - like in the Last Lethal Weapon they made where this church was harboring illegal’s and posters on the wall in the cop’s office area dealing with pro-abortion themes or some such.

I am not as bothered by the Hollywood lefties as much as the author. Hollywood has been predominantly left (or outright communist) from the get-go. Sure there were exceptions, like John Wayne, Charlton Heston, John Voight, et al, but most are lefties or too scared to come out as conservatives.

Where I do draw the line is when the entertainment itself is too left for me to enjoy it. If it is s movie or TV show that preaches lefty ideas, I'm not interested. I am not boycotting Hollywood, but most of the movies I watch or buy on Blu-ray are older and most of the actors in them are dead. I won't watch SNL or late night "comics" or crap like Samantha Bee or anything by Seth McFarlane. I did decide to boycott the NFL because they are right in my face with their stupidity and hatred of America.

A friend and I were observing the other day that it seemed that every organization we belonged to had become more lobby group than mutual interrest. More and more of their funds, publications etc. has been allotted just to keep the government from ruining your obby rather than enjoying it.

You can do it without cutting down ALL the trees can’t you?

;-)

I meant to say clearing and flattening the areas where the trails will be. It’s very beautiful. We want to keep it that way. :-)

Oh, not true. Look at the advancement of sexual possibilities the liberals have added to our society. Let’s face it, according to their “improvements,” if you’re out of a date on Friday night you must be dead. Oh those liberals do like to party.

I gave up on Hollywood studio movies for the most part some time ago. But there is some really good stuff making its way to audiences on Netflix. Just watched a Netflix original movie this weekend called “Arq”. A really good science fiction popcorn flick with are great twist ending. Well worth checking out if you like Sy Fi.

Today we were at the Brandenburg Gate celebrating Germany Reunification Day. Bet I was the only guy walking in through security with a bag of Dunkin' Donuts.

I’ve given up magazines long time ago, but my reasons are the hundreds of ads in them. I want to read articles but not advertisements.

Do you have any puddles when it rains?

If so it’ll be declared a wetland and you won’t be allowed to touch it.

Also you need a permit to chop down the trees.

You think this is your land?

There are people who cannot resist the lure of owning a microphone. When I was at an ATM not too long ago - yep, Wells Fargo - I was greeted with "Press the button below to get your new rainbow ATM card so you can show your support for gay rights!" Um...no thanks. At what point did those two worlds become commingled?

I think the whole PC thing went over the line when companies ceased from proclaiming "we're GREEN!" out of fear for lost business and began doing so out of self-righteousness and to hell with lost business. Target is a perfect case in point. The customer these days is never right, or if he is, gets a firm push to the left from his haberdasher or his toilet paper vendor, whose new CEO or Sales manager has decided that his lofty seat confers the obligation of indoctrination and re-education of those poor unfortunates who used to be his customers. And promptly wonders where they all went, and blames them.

Still, the great thing about capitalism is that there will always be a competitor looking for this sort of self-imposed vulnerability. Naturally they must be destroyed.
