No, I work in Los Angeles and the vast majority of my fellow teachers are Hispanic. There are only three white teachers at my school, counting me. My neighborhood is a mix of Cuban, black, Armenian, white, Asian... and about half of them are gay, so... I'm not really with "my own kind" unless I look them up and we go out to eat.
That sounds like the school district in the Los Feliz / Silverlake area where a friend of mine sends her kids.
Your point is right on -- the white kids at the school in Oregon may be around exclusively their own, but those in L.A. and most other big cities sure aren't.
