Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/06/2016 4:10:09 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

I looked up the radar of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and I saw it was at 175 mph threatening the Gulf coast , it hit with a 28 foot storm surge that’s a rolling tsuanmami and tidal wave 28 feet high . I thought I ‘d better drive out of southern Louisiana.I barely made it out.
Largest in width to ever hit the USA

That was totally uncalled for what happened up north. Gulf state people in general are the finest of the best. That’s true throughout the entire Southeast.

I experienced 100 mph straight line winds in a Texas thunderstorm. It took our trampoline on a tour of the neighborhood, cracked a few trees over, but -0- structural damage to our house.

Now then, when the winds reach 120 or more, that's when it gets mighty damaging.

Think of it as a tornado that stays for days.

It's moving at 11 mph. As far as storm winds are concerned, it's a 6-10 hour event, with wind speed equivalent to a strong F2, though without the shock of sudden onset. Stop scaring people.

My sister won’t leave her trailer. I suspect she will change her mind last minute

I hope she is not in a coastal community. The evacuation problem is that already there are hundreds of thousands of people on the Interstate right now, making getting anywhere else a complete nightmare.

In 2004, we had the joy of driving on I-95 at 5-10 mph maximum for hours with 50+K of our closest neighbors in evacuating Brevard County (Merritt Island).

Gov Scott just announced floridaevacuates.com to identify local shelters but it is being slammed and unreachable at the moment.

All the best to you.

Thanks for your concern Arthur and keep up the stellar work you do here on FR.
Rush is right in the area where it starts getting nasty,West Palm Beach,of course Rush probably lives in a fortress would be my guess, although he is right on the Atlantic.
Another problem for Rush is that the storm is gaining strength and will probably be stronger in WPB than when it hits Jacksonville.

We find here in the Keys that there is a huge relationship between damage and building codes up and down the coast.
We have really strict codes down here but not so much in some places.

On the lighter side, there will not be any hanging chads.

Obama is still not declaring early emergency relief as requested. I guess Obama is showing everyone how it sucks to be a Republican governor who supports The Donald.

Obama wants mayhem and destruction. He usues it to invoke race riots where ever he can.

Bigger tides in Ga. than Florida as well. If this hits at high tide could be some flooding.

Yes, Rush is 5 miles S. of me. Even if he built a bunker he should be gone.

“Please get a grip.”

That all depends on what the meaning of “grip” is supposed to be. Please chime out.

What is the elevation of your families property? The storm surge is the big killer. I have heard 15 feet or more.

“Isn’t Rush right on the beach at Palm Beach?”

If Obama could control the weather that’s right where he’d steer it.

Center of the state, North and west of Orlando.

The 11AM forecast now calls for hurricane force winds going through Orlando. Don't want to be an alarmist nor feed into any media hype, but living in manufactured housing is not optimal in these conditions. Orange County Mayor Jacobs just now saying that those in the area in mobile homes seek a community shelter.
