Look, Hurricane Matthew is going to be bad. Real bad. It's currently a Category 4, and there's a good chance it will be the strongest hurricane to hit the mid- and upper-Atlantic Coast of Florida in years. There will be extensive property damage. The Kennedy Space Center is at serious risk. There's a danger Zika could spread like wildfire in the aftermath. If residents stay, they are putting themselves in extreme peril.

Fox News' Shepard Smith just made that abundantly clear on air. Let's go to the videotape:

Shep is a Florida Man himself—or at least set up shop there for 11 years. Maybe it's a little personal for him. But he really went in here:

"This moves 20 miles to the west, you and everyone you know are dead. All of you...and your kids die, too."

Earlier in the day, he also posed this question to a Florida Woman refusing to evacuate:

I’ve always heard it described as almost inevitable with old money southern families when the name’s about to die out. “Tired blood.”

Interesting that that particular word gets bent around so much.

There haven't been ANY hurricanes to hit the Atlantic coast of Florida since 2005.

He's a professional media bastard - he believes what he's paid to believe. If he was paid to encourage people to steal babies and lay them on active train tracks he'd do it, with just as much effort as he's putting into whoring for the hurricane now.

Scum.

We lost our old money to the Yankees so I’m not a good authority

Honestly few of my ancestors were gentry

My great great grandpa who fought at Vicksburg and Shiloh etc with Miss cavalry ...Boyston I think was their commander....he had 1200 acres but it wasn’t loam and he had 23 kids up into his 70s
He was a squire pretty much but not fancy

His baby girl just died at around 92 I think

My wife is a Barksdale-Wade-Polk of middle TN

Now they really lost a pile

Her great great grandpa had 15,000 acres between here and Mississippi south of Vicksburg and 100s of slaves

Gone with the Wind as they say

They basically reverted to hillbilly class but the faded gentility still shows in her good manners....and her mom and all her sisters too

It’s like Cromwell rode through....it takes a long time to recover

A fizzler? Already? So far it has not been a sizzler and it is still hasn't made it's forcasted mark yet. Still a little early to state ‘a fizzler’. I remember watching everyone in New Orleans partying in the French Quarters when being told to leave before Katrina. They were saying ‘no biggie!’. There is absolutely nothing sissy’ish about evacuating in a Level 4-5 Hurricane. One can replace items and even a home, but not a life. Plus, by staying behind - one doesn't only risk their own life, but they are risking other’s when they are being sent out to save those who stayed behind.

A fizzler would be a good thing. But, it's better to be prepared. That is prudent.

I’ve got some old southern gentry in the family tree here and there, only one you might have heard of was way back though, 18th century and before, but they didn’t die out. King Carter and his second wife Elizabeth Landon, Landon Carter. Understand he had some impact during the land office days of early TN statehood. None of the money filtered down, lol. Only legacy was being well-spoken, well-read and “socially acceptable” as genteel po’ folk, and the names of a few long-dead distant cousins on buildings in Chapel Hill.
