TexasCowboy 11th Annual Memorial Shoot
« on: April 26, 2016, 05:33:11 PM »
This years shoot will be held at Hicksville Gun Range, in Gatesville, starting at 10:00 a.m. on October 8th. http://www.hicksvillegunrange.com/ The range fee is $20.00/person, as a bonus, the range has a deaf dog that likes to catch rocks and to hang out on the firing line.

Lunch will be prepared by FReeper cpdiii (Charlie) and we should be ready to eat by 1:00. Charlie always make great food.

There will also be pre & post shoot camaraderie at Cherokee Village ~ http://cherokeevillageresort.com/ ~ Friday & Saturday night; which includes lots of food, alcohol and laughter.

Everyone is more than welcome to come join us; as I have said several times - this is not a FR event, it is to honor an amazing, wonderful friend. The majority of people that attend are from FR, but they are the good ones.

Little bit of background: For several years TexasCowboy (El Roy) hosted shoots at different ranges across Texas, three or four times a year. After all the guns were put away he’d fire up his grill and cook lunch. Everyone had a great time and it was a chance to get to know fellow FReepers. In early 2005 TC was diagnosed with bone cancer and, sadly, after a 10 month battle he passed away. On the ride home from his funeral my husband & I were discussing how to keep TC’s memory alive ~ his children are crap and probably forgot all about him once they received their inheritance. I came up with the idea of continuing the shoots, but on an annual basis. BOOM! The TexasCowboy Annual Memorial Shoot was born.

El Roy was a fine Texas gentleman with a heart of gold, and gave the best hugs! He’d hate what is happening to FR.

There is a Facebook page that I try to keep updated ~ https://www.facebook.com/groups/103779094182/ ~ let me know if you would like to be added to this page.

I loved TC, met him on the Logan (Texas Termite) thread. That boy must be a teenager now! Hope you all had fun; it sure looks like it.

How is Brad’s Gramma doing? I haven’t seen her around here for a long time and I know she had health issues. Miss her!! Please tell me she is ok.

El Roy (aka Texas Cowboy) spent almost his entire life in the oilfield. I was in it for 17 years before I went back to school and became a pharmacist. I conversed with El Roy over the internet for about a year before I meet him. He invited my down to shoot near Frederiksberg. I looked around and saw a tall lanky Texan. I walked up to him and said, “you look like oil field trash to me.” If you have worked in the oilfield you can say this to each other. Do not say it if you are not! It will not be pleasant.

El Roy stuck his hand out, a big smile and said, “you must be Charlie.” We both laughed. El Roy was a man of great principles and honor. We had shared stories of our oil field days, some not repeatable. Oddly enough we had worked in some of the same places but never at the same time. I meet El Roy after I left the oil field.

He is missed greatly!
