But the idea that they were responding to a “simple” family disturbance is at odds with some reports that the father told a neighbor that his son had a gun and wanted to kill cops. I believe the neighbor called the police. They showed up, and were suddenly gunned down. Were these officers informed of the danger of this situation? So many questions.

If the neighbor did not reveal what he knew about the shooter when he called the police; that could be considered a crime - like aiding and abetting in the commission of a crime.
Be careful.

That is my question as well. Did the neighbor tell the dispatcher that the son was armed and threatening to harm officers? Too many of these cases seem to involve people who are mentally ill and yet their families allow them access to guns! The police are being placed into no-win situations as today’s tragic encounter shows...
