Donald Trump’s threat to imprison Hillary Clinton is a threat to Democracy
VOX ^ | 10-10-2016 | Zack Beauchamp

There is no way to sugarcoat this: At Sunday night’s presidential debate, Donald Trump threatened to throw Hillary Clinton in jail if he wins the presidency. This — threatening to jail one’s political opponents — is how democratic norms die.

The exchange happened during a discussion of the controversy over Hillary Clinton’s private email server. Trump began by decrying Clinton’s conduct — which, according to the FBI, was quite bad but not illegal. He then proposed appointing a special prosecutor to investigate her, and warned Clinton that, if he were president now, “you’d be in jail”:

TRUMP: I'll tell you what. I didn't think I'd say this, and I'm going to say it, and hate to say it: If I win, I'm going to instruct the attorney general to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation because there's never been so many lies, so much deception … A very expensive process, so we're going to get a special prosecutor because people have been, their lives have been destroyed for doing one-fifth of what you've done. And it's a disgrace, and honestly, you ought to be ashamed.

(SNIP)

This is so far beyond normal that it’s hard to even know where to start.

In democracies, we respect people’s rights to disagree with each other. When one candidate wins a presidential election, the loser returns to private life or another government position. In some cases, former rivals become close friends. George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton, who defeated Bush in the 1992 election, travel together and have spent decades jointly raising money to aid the victims of natural disasters.

They don’t get sent to jail, because we believe that political disagreement should be legal.

Donald Trump doesn’t seem to care about all that.

Dear Liberals: Time is long overdue the Clinton Crime Family is brought before the bar of justice and their many crimes earn them the sentences they so richly deserve. This country was founded on the Rule of Law. No one, not even the Clintons, is above the Law. What a new concept for you Libs.

You are correct. AFIK, IL is the only state to have four (4) of its governors convicted of felonies and sent to prison: 1) Otto Kerner (D), 2) Dan Walker (D), 3) Rod Blagojevich (D), and 4) George Ryan (R). IL is where our governors make our license plates.

George Bush’s number one early failure was to take a pass on going after the Clinton crime syndicate.

Didn't want to call in the artillery on his own position?

He would be prosecuting her for the illegal things she has done, not for the fact that she’s his political opponent. Libs are so stupid.

This is how democracies die.

Nonsense. The Democrat corruption of the Justice Department, FBI, and IRS is the REAL threat to our Republic. In their lust for power and control, the Democrats have corrupted the very heart of the American system of justice. To not address this fact would itself be a dereliction of duty.

What Donald Trump said, clearly and unambiguously, was that—should he be elected President—he would direct the Attorney General of his Administration to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate the Clinton email scandal.

It would be up to the lawfully appointed Special Prosecutor to determine if there is sufficient evidence of criminal wrong-doing to bring indictments. There is a PROCESS. No one is talking about summarily throwing people in jail.

Properly investigation a compromised case is not what Vox is trying to make of it - if she ended up in jail it would be because of the crimes she has committed. Adherence to the Constitution and our supposedly being a Nation of laws, equally applied among all the People demands that this farce be rectified.

Comey has tainted the FBI and Holder and Lynch have tainted the DOJ to the point where neither entity has any valid standing as part of our legal/justice system today.

CNN is more Orwellian than MSNBC.

MSNBC was saying the same thing as CNN, that Hillary won the debate, but all their commentary implied they were shell-shocked and kept trying to defend Hillary, while attacking Trump.

They did keep mentioning how Trump attacked Hillary’s positions and how she didn’t respond with anything to change those positions. They emphasized how there was a difference between saying something wrong, and doing something wrong that cost lives, destroyed lives, and ended jobs.

In a nutshell, they know Trump won in a landslide, but they’re dancing to spin it as a Hillary victory, but keep recollecting the Trump winning positions.

So Democracies die but enforcing laws? That’s a good one,Democracies die when the powerful fix investigations when the powerful destroy evidence under subpoena, destroy physical evidence, give immunity to all the perpetrators, you corrupt the entire justice system, that is what kills democracies, one system for the elite, and one for the unwashed masses

Meanwhile, on CNN, they are explaining, using DEMOCRAT SPOKESPEOLPE, of course, how Donald Trump LOST the debate....

My response to one of them?

"If Hillary had won the debate, it would be OVER for the Orange Meanie."

It doesn't appear to be over for the Orange Meanie. :)
