Were Muslims partially responsible for American independence?

Hillary Clinton raised eyebrows with a questionable claim during Sunday’s fiery presidential debate by stating Islam was always part of American history – even since the Revolutionary War.

After recycling the Khizir Khan controversy, the Democrat nominee claimed “we’ve had Muslims in America since George Washington.”

Yes. And if you believe the 6 to 8 million numbers put out by CAIR vs the Pew estimate of 3.3 million you're counting Arab Christians who fled Arab Muslims. Not the "progress", per Pew, the last 6 years and into the future based on current government policies.

The claim that Muslims were responsible in part for the founding of America is true - for exactly the opposite reason given by Clinton and her shills. In 1456, the Ottomans conquered Constantinople, Sultan Mehmet versus Constantine XI. Because Constantinople (Istanbul) controls the entrance to the Black Sea from the Mediterranean, the Turks were in a position to demand tariffs from Europeans trading for spices from the Far East, or to prevent any trade from taking place. In 1491 Spanish king Ferdinand II defeated the Muslim Moors at Granada, putting all Spain in Christian hands. One year later his wife Queen Isabella built a fleet for Christopher Columbus to find away to the Far East that avoided the Muslim blockade/tariffs. On Columbus Day, please everyone remember that the opening of the New World, the original birth of the United States, was accomplished by European Christians who were engaged in a bitter centuries old conflict with Muslims, and who were attempting to escape Muslim domination and control.

“we’ve had Muslims in America since George Washington.”

fixed it:
“America has been at war with Muslims since Thomas Jefferson”, the Barbary war.

Muslims were active at the founding of the United States because they engineered the slave trade. It was the Muslims who captured and sold slaves in Africa. They still practice slavery in many Muslim countries.

Interesting that John Quincy Adams, considered a stalwart in the Abolitionist movement before the Civil War, had such negative comments about Islam. Maybe it’s because slavery was so prevalent in Islamic philosophy and practice.

The usual claims relate to Luis de Torres Columbus' translator since he spoke Arabic. Hebrew, Portugese, Aramaic claiming Jewish conversos were Muslim. A slave, Estevanico, was shipwrecked off Florida in the early 16th century, traveling through the southwest to Mexico City. No doubt some slaves were Muslim.

Can't see the relevance of this to HRC's claim about Muslims "here" at the time of George Washington. This connects to Spanish America, not to the English colonies that later became the US and not to the earliest days of the United States in the late eighteenth century.

Can anyone name a single Muslim who played any role at all in the founding of the United States?

It's clear that HRC's statement is nothing but pandering to current-day Muslims.

No Muslims were involved in a positive way in the founding of the United States. And the surrent practice of claiming Islam was common among slaves is simply a modern revisionist lie. There were a few, true, but they were almost celebrities by their oddity.

Pandering to Muslims is 'money in the bank' for the Clinton types... the ME is awash with CASH for 'speeches'...

The only thing around at the time of George Washington were the Barbary pirates which I think Thomas Jefferson finally dealt with. But they were not in America except for their emissary.

The Barbary pirates gave Thomas Jefferson a convenient enemy to boost his approval ratings. This was all worked out in advance, of course./s

No Muslims were involved in any positive way in any endeavor throughout their entire history. I had the chance to visit the lovely Museum of Islamic Art in Qatar.

It's an amazing building:

Notice anything? This is the premier showcase of Islamic Art housing exhibits gathered over centuries. In other words, it's empty.

After spending interminable hours clambering around the maze of stairs, you can see dozens of poorly illuminated scraps of their book, some painted tiles and the only Islamic "invention" -- the astrolabe--stolen from the Greeks, but honestly improved over centuries.

Notice the resemblance to our Smithsonian? Neither did I...

Uh... Duh..., let's see.... The Muslims helped fund the first decent U.S. navy because Pres. Thomas Jefferson decided to raise one to stop the depredations of the Muslim Barbary pirates. Maybe that's what Hitler meant.

No, but the Democrat Left always redefine history to suite themselves via propaganda.

One of the soldiers rowing Washington across the Delaware was Muslim.( sarc.).

After all, Utopia is just around the corner?
