The best response of the Catholic church would to be to do the unexpected. Reform all Catholic educational institutions to forbid the teaching of any form of socialism. Fire all academics who profess to be socialists, and tell all Catholics who embrace socialism that it is an expression of atheism and the cardinal sin of vanity, and is antithetical to the belief in God and their hope for salvation, leading only to death and oblivion.
I went twelve years in Catholic school, last four In a Catholic JROTC Military Academy in the 70’s thru 80’s. There was zip-zero liberalism.
That same Catholic JROTC Military Academy has in the last five years considered admitting girls and allowing students to opt out of JROTC.
