Yep, but most people still trusted the press because they thought they were telling the truth. No one thought Walter Cronkite would lie to the American public. Same for Chet Huntley and David Brinkley. Besides they always were pro America even if they disagreed with a President. They also would not disagree with a President 100% of the time.

Then Watergate happened, and all of that changed. Democrat Presidents were given passes while Republican Presidents had their feet held to the fire.

Besides that fact I was a child in the 50's and part of that time (3 years) I lived outside of the United States, in Japan. My father was a Captain in the Air Force at that time.

Does he mean like the Left’s insistence that GW Bush stole two elections?

Does he mean like the Left’s nutjob assertions that Bush “knew” and destroyed the WTC on 9-11? Even Hillary made this claim from the floor of the Senate in February 2002.

The same Leftards who made fun of Trump’s debate performance and Romney’s “binders of women” will let Bammy slide on “truthiness”.

This spoken by the man who benefitted from George Soros, David Axelrod, and Rahm Emanuel telling the major media companies that they would be annihilated by government harassment if they reported anything about Obama’s eligibility problems or Muslim leanings.

Even when they stack the deck so that the “reliable media” (as he calls them) will LIE FOR OBAMA, they have to say that the media is their problem.

We’ve got a story that would blow the socks off of this whole regime, if anybody cared to hear it. But who would be willing to tell it?

Walter Cronkite was a globalist who supported a one world government and sought the end of US sovereignty.

He claims it didn’t influence his reporting. BULLSTALIN.

Yes, what you both say are true, however, the reality is that there was more seesawing back and forth between slightly left & slightly right being told to the people and even then they were mostly pro American regardless of which way the windmill was tilting at any given moment. The left did not receive complete passes, nor were the right held to such a strident standard.

However, with Watergate that all changed. The left started receiving more passes, and Republicans were given less by the press. Their reporting centered around portraying, government controlled by Democrats was good government, whereas, government controlled by Republicans was bad government.

Before that it was more policy oriented, rather than personality oriented. Not that personality didn't play a role, because it did as was evident in the Kennedy Nixon election. As they attacked the policies of a President rather than the President himself it at least was seen as a more fair press because people were also deciding which policies were right or wrong. The press did not play gotcha games or even delve into and report on the personal lives of politicians. They didn't expose indiscretions such as extra-martial affairs even if they were aware of them.

The power of the press has always been a strong one, going back to the introduction of them. The more outlets for opinions to be aired the better the press became.

With the advent of mass communication capabilities, these sources were limited due to available bandwidth. As that bandwidth increased biases were neutralized and became more balanced. However, those that could draw the bigger audiences had more influence than others.

So for years those outlets had to be more honest to attract market share. Certain issues gave them the power to swing either left or right, depending on the mood of the people, but it was more to gain larger market share. Watergate was the catalyst to swing left and remain there.

However, it was not so much as Watergate itself, but the revelation of Nixon weaponizing the IRS. That is the real damage Nixon did.

Over the last 40 years the press kept trending further and further to the left in increments. Within the last decade they finally arrived to where they no longer even care to hide their bias. Their blatant openness in support of the corrupt Democrat Party over the corrupt Republican Party, albeit less corrupt can no longer be denied nor is it denied. Because they curry rewards for their undying support of the Democrat Party.

In addition, enough of the population has been dumbed down and brainwashed enough to support them.

I can only speak for myself, and my hope is that they have miscalculated and that support is not as strong as they believe it to be.

TWINKIE won’t let OBAMA slide on “truthiness”! We are
slouching very fast on the trail to GOMORRAH and the
loss of the Constitution. OBAMA’S blurt-out on his
idea about how the internet and other alternate media
other than the MSM needs to be replaced with his damned
MINISTRY OF TRUTHINESS formed to limit our options reeks
of his stinking desire for a monarchy, with HILLARY as the
QUEEN and him at the helm of the WHOLE DAMNED WORLD at the
U.N. pulling invisible strings with Valerie Jarrett REALLY
running things as his “assistant”.

True, but to most people that was viewed as a pipe dream that would never come to fruition. However, a majority, both left & right still viewed him as an honest person. It wasn't until George Herbert Walker Bush's proclamation of the formation of a New World Order that people started paying attention to the notion of a One World government becoming a reality.

While some see only the positives, no more wars, free trade amongst the nations, and free access to go where they want when they want, they do not see the negatives. Of course that major negative is the fact of power being concentrated in the hands of the few. They believe those few will be benevolent and honest, ignoring the reality that power corrupts and absolute power absolutely corrupts. That in reality they are just supporting their own enslavement if they are useful, or their extermination if they are not.

“We are going to have to rebuild within this wild-wild-west-of-information flow some sort of curating function that people agree to,”

So who will be the curator in this new ministry of ‘truth’ and propaganda? Another fascist/socialist idea that the peasant masses need a state sponsored fountain of truth. The man is dangerous but there are millions who are buying this garbage. And they’ll be voting for Clinton in November.

Yes, and the WWW has conveniently been handed over to foreign powers that hate our system of government. So when the leftists in the USA delete the truth on some Internet sites, they can claim that “they” took it down.

Here on FR, hoax stories have a relatively short lifespan before people start saying "Hey, wait a minute".

The way people are mainly misled, is not by the issuance of false news, but by the suppression of true-but-inconvenient news. Web sites like Drudge, FR, Breitbart, etc, make this harder for the powers-that-be to accomplish. Hence, non-cooperating media needs to be suppressed.
