I agree about schools. I’ve also lived in CA, CO, KS, AR, OK, and OH. In those states, each school district has at least one high school, at least one junior high, and at least one elem. school. Those districts usually have lower property tax rates than Illinois districts. The majority of those states have higher test scores and/or lower drop-out rates, compared to Illinois.

Eh, comparing to state of IL perhaps higher test scores, but my school district in terms of total performance was fairly highly ranked...and nice, safe town too. Not sorry we came here.*

Actually I worked hard to make the move to DuPage County happen LOL new job, move, etc...but was worth living in IL for raising family/excellent education. Kids all did well and are doing well...educated, successful contributors ;)

*Now I just need to plot my escape plan from IL ;) and I am really not kidding about that!
