“Americans at the time saw what we call the War of 1812 as the 2nd War of Independence. They recognized that if we had lost this war, we would have lost the independence we won in ‘76”

American propaganda. The War of 1812 was an unprovoked expansionist war of aggression against us peace loving Canucks. The Brits were clumsy in their ill advised attacks on Lake Champlain and New Orleans, but the Canadian peasants helped repulse the American invasions north of the border. Queenston Heights, Stoney Creek,Beaver Dam, Chateauguay, Chrysler’s Farm, Lundy’s Lane. Now we just beat you Yanks on the ice. :)

Well, of course. We were going to drag you peace-loving Canadians into the Union kicking and screaming whether you liked it or not. Like a similar attempt during the first War of Independence, it failed. I blame our politically-appointed generals, who like Brave Sir Robin, ran away at the first sign of resistance.
