This article is infantile and ovef the top, and makes me wonder if the author has ties to the defense industry (Lockheed and Boeing have gotten far more than $4.9 billion in govt subsidies). My first thought was this was sabotage when I saw it, given some past history in this field. There is billions in motive. Musk is a lib, but has done great things with Tesla and the Hyperloop. Not going to bash him just because of government subsidies.

Didn’t say otherwise...those guys aren’t claiming to be doing “private” space efforts. They openly say they are govt contractors

Let’s get Mr. Calculator out and do a simple calculation...

Speed of light = 186,000 miles/second
Distance between Falcon 9 and ULA building = 1 mile
Standard video frame rate = 24 frames/second

Time it takes light to get from Falcon 9 to ULA building = 1 mile/186,000 miles/second = 0.0000054 seconds.

Chances of getting the time bases between the video recordings accurate be able to resolve which happened first (flash from top of ULA building or rocket explosion) almost ZERO.

5 It is called “crony capitalism”. Musk, btw, is a Hillary Clinton contributor and Hillary is one of their boosters.

... and Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com and Blue Origin, owns The Washington Post.

“Musk is a lib, but has done great things with Tesla and the Hyperloop. Not going to bash him just because of government subsidies”

Well, the problem is that the crony capitalists are a part of the problem.

They work with the politicians to misallocate resources in the economy away from their productive uses.

What are their most productive uses?...

wait for it...

You and I don’t know!

Only the markets can determine that if it is allowed to do so.

Musk and Hillary are part of the problem—if they and their friends rule the economy must collapse—because resources must be mis-allocated—and that has a bad effect on the livelihood of every American in every corner of the country.

Why are we spending public money on a private space company again?

...

It’s a lot more cost efficient than a public space company.

Last year’s Falcon 9 explosion incinerated more than $112 million in government cargo.

...

The cargo fell intact inside the capsule, but saying it was incinerated is much more dramatic.

The writer of the article is an idiot. A “....breach in a helium tank....” would extinguish a fire and prevent an explosion, not cause one.

...

The helium tanks are highly pressurized and inside the LOX tank. A burst would cause the LOX tank or valve to rupture, and that would lead to an explosion.

This article sounds like ‘sour grapes’.

...

Sounds to me like the writer is doing Boeing’s dirty work, and Boeing is a money sucking crony.

I wasn't aware of that placement...does sound problematic.

“....Hillary is one of their boosters.”

Will she blow up on the launch pad?

To put stuff in orbit. At least SpaceX gives Americans jobs. Russia (who we also pay to launch stuff) doesn't.

I can see that might be the case now, but has it always been so?
