Yes. He should not be praised as an actual singer. He’s awful. (And the arrangements sometimes are too goony - as were much in the ‘60s.)

Actually, I have heard some of his work before he became famous. He has a good melodious voice. Nobody noticed his singing and lyrics until he started to chant his lyrics and became “Bob Dylan.” Janice Joplin had a great voice too, but didn’t make it big until she went “Janice Joplin.”.
