You’re not a quart low. You are correct that a lot of the solid state based equipment is vulnerable.
I was at a power plant where the load disappeared for less time than the protective equipment could react. Other than that the plant continued to operate until it went cold iron for maintenance.
When the 1,000 megawatt plant went through start up there was a severe vibration in the generator. The interruption had warped the rotor shaft. The rotor was removed and sent back to the manufacturer. I’m not sure how it was repaired. It could not be balanced in the field.
An EMP strike or another Carrington event has the potential to disrupt the grid in ways we may not be able to imagine.
