Cruz denies sending tweet urging conservatives to leave GOP

WASHINGTON – Ted Cruz appeared to declare the Donald Trump/Hillary Clinton race all but over—before taking that call back.

The Texas Senator and runner up to the GOP nomination tweeted Sunday: “Why conservatives will need a new party if/when Hillary wins.”

The conservative firebrand last month reluctantly endorsed The Donald– despite holding a grudge against the billionaire for insulting his wife’s appearance and speculating his father was involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

His public declaration against the GOP nominee drew immediate attention and the tweet was mysteriously deleted later Sunday.

Cruz appeared to be linking to a Conservative Review article that predicted Clinton will be elected president Nov. 8 and true conservatives should break from the GOP to form a new opposition party.

“In a constitutional system that is working properly — with a party that cares to exercise its power appropriately — Hillary’s presidency should be dead on arrival,” author Daniel Horowitz wrote. The article also takes a jab at fellow Texas Senator John Cornyn for suggesting Republicans could work with Clinton on criminal justice reform. In another bizarre twist, Cruz denied posting the tweet and implied his account could have been a hacked.

“That was not tweeted by Sen. Cruz or an authorized handler of the account knowingly. It has been pulled down and we have reached out to Twitter to determine the source,” said Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier.

Doesn’t need to put out a message like that. If Hillary wins the GOP party is toast.

No, that’s what Cruz has been doing since he dropped out.

Just about at year after getting elected to the Senate, he worked WITH the liberty caucus and AGAINST leadership to kill the gang of 8 deal.

But no, you are probably right. He didn’t do anything.

It is becoming clearer and clearer to me that all of you rabid anti-Cruz people deep down realize that you are responsible for probably giving this election to Hillary. You will do anything to try and make yourselves feel better. That is why you construct this evil strawman version of Cruz that you can then tear down.

You are pathetic.

I am pathetic? You are one deluded sore loser Cruzlim. Obviously you day dream of Saint Ted descending from Mt. Goldman to save this country. I’ll buy you a clue: It ain’t happening.

You can’t dispute the fact that a Cruz was a career GOP establishment guy before self serving jumping on the TEA Train for his Senate campaign against establishment Dewhurst. Cruz’s conduct on the gang of 8 is debatable. He played both sides of the issue as any skilled lawyer would. What is not debatable is his massive support for American job killing H-1B visa increases. In fact he sponsored a Senate bill to do that.

If there is anything pathetic here it is sore loser Ted Cruz and he deluded cultists who refuse to accept the primary results and work to defeat Hillary Criminal. This betrayal of the GOP nominee is without precedent in modern American political history, IMO. And you own it all, FRiend.

Yes. You can dispute that. He was a tireless advocate of gun right, free expression of religion and lots of other specifically CONSERVATIVE positions. He argued them before the supreme court from a CONSERVATIVE standpoint.

He was on a debate team that went around debating the Constitution in MIDDLE SCHOOL. He is a movement conservative. He is an ideologue. He is not some go along to get along politician who just puts an "R" after his name because that is the party his district elects.

You are just simply wrong here.

I get it. You like Trump better. That's fine. He has many good qualities. Cruz has many off putting qualities. It get it.

I still say we picked the least conservative guy with the worst chances to beat Hillary but we will see.

I make a very conscious effort not to continue ripping Trump (although I slip up now and again) for the sake of party unity and I genuinely hope he wins.

I guess it is easier for us Cruz supporters to let bygones be bygones because we know we used the best judgement we could and just simply lost the contest. This constant hatred and vitriol toward Cruz from Trump supporters even after he endorsed Trump (and endorsed again after the "grab her pussy" tapes) only leads me to believe that there is some buyers remorse and you are tearing down the option you subconsciously know you should have gone with.....whatever makes you sleep better at night.
