Putin, the Democrats, and the old mainline Republicans have been wanting this to happen. This solidifies everyone's power base. I sure hope they can pull this back from brink before full blown World War III starts bullets flying. But I don't think anyone in power wants to.

There is some irony in the fact that a segment of the FReeper population likes to crow about Putin’s “chess” moves, but likes to disparage ours.

The Democrats goal of starting a ground war with Russia is craziness. And the WH blaming inside DNC leaks of the election on the Russians? They are going to take us to war and kill millions of people to hide their crimes. Millions of regular middle class Americans will die, so the Democrats can hide their sins

Why would Putin want this?

He gets his way in Syria with a Trump win and I know that’s not good but it’s not as bad as fighting WWIII over ####ig muslims.

I have to disagree.

The MARINES probably didn’t seek this.
The Russians are not going to be very terrified by it.
It has been mostly Obama/HilLIARy/Kerry that have been doing the provocations and threats, not Russia/Putin.

Three obvious lies or misrepresentations in the article’s first two sentences, I quit reading it. ‘Among the calamities of war may be jointly numbered the diminution of the love of truth, by the falsehoods which interest dictates and credulity encourages.’ (Samuel Johnson,The Idler, 1758)

ps: SorozNazi has been pulling his puppets’ strings (Obama/HilLIARY/Kerry) for several years trying to provoke war with Russia, a country that logically could be a very good ally against our IslamoNazi enemy.

I don’t support ANY foreign military involvement by the US under this administration and as long as current ROE’s of our ground combat soldiers and marines are in place much less enforced.

Also, it needs to be carved at the top of the Washington Monument in 20 foot tall letters that an American soldier or Marine will Always receive the “benefit of ANY doubt” under the UCMJ.

This is more neo-con, globalist, elitist, Bilderberg Group, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Tonkin Gulf, Vietnam type thinking.

The last President who could lead this country in a war effectively was Abraham Lincoln, a good Republican back when there was such thing. I would say Reagan but I remember the Marine Barracks in Beirut. Don’t flame me! I love REagan. But, I’m still mad about the Marine Barracks.

The value of the Marines to the defense of Norway would be degraded by putting them in a fixed defensive position. So this actually makes sense coming from this administration.

Marines are not unfamiliar with Norway. June 1965 My BLT (battalion landing team) fresh from a six month deployment to the 6th Fleet in the Med was routed north for a amphibiouslanding near Andoya Norway, north of the Arctic Circle.
It was called Operation Bar Drinker ... apparently that's where it was conceived ... idea being could Marines go from a warm climate to a arctic climate ... a wet landing with a 35% trench foot was the result.

US assertions of Russian involvement in cyber hacks on American political organizations and individuals.

Have there really been any "US assertions of Russian involvement", meaning real intelligence and something provable? Or has it been Hillary campaign assertions in their attempt to deflect the Wikileaks damage to her by blaming it on a collusion between the Big Bad Russians and Trump?

Blaming it on the Russians just as a campaign ploy would be a pretty stupid and counterproductive stunt.

Who writes this dribble?

Much ado about very little. For decades, the Marine Corps has pre-positioned vehicles, armor, heavy weapons and associated equipment, supplies and ammunition for a full Marine Expeditionary Brigade. These are stored and maintained in mountain caves in central Norway awaiting marriage to “fly-in” USMC units from Camp Lejeune, MCAS Cherry Point and MCAS Beaufort, and subsequent transport northward by sea for the defense of northern Norway. This is a purely defensive mission, and is so limited by the MEB’s size as well as the region’s terrain. The MEB is a hindrance to any Russian attack, but poses no threat to Russia itself. Frequent NATO exercises practice a portion of this capability. (All of this information is unclassified and readily available from numerous sources.)
