I disagree that avoiding relationships so you can “find yourself” is a model that should be elevated in society. The whole problem with western countries is that people are delaying childbirth until later and later, often to the point where they need fertility treatments to make it happen. This is a model that causes a society to die out and crater economically.

While not every person is suited to become a spouse and/or parent, the model for a healthy society is for most people to marry and have children. The idea that people need a decade after college to be “established” enough to start a family is less than convincing. And if it takes someone that long to find a “suitable” spouse, they’re probably being overly picky to the point of being a dysfunctional neurotic.

The idea that having a partner is somehow some kind of albatross around your neck that holds you back sounds indistinguishable from feminazi “fish without a bicycle” claptrap. A partner is there to support and uplift you. It’s not hard to find examples of those relationships out there. The idea that we avoid all relationships because some can be dysfunctional is not taking a job because some jobs are bad or not seeing a movie because some movies are bad.

So the idea that we would celebrate avoiding relationships doesn’t sell to me. I can envision an elderly person who stayed single and never had children being much more likely to regret it than a person who got married and had children.

One’s ability to remain abstinent can be influenced by how one defines “sex.”

Some women are anything but, abstinent which leaves a lot of leeway.

Right, well...

I’m not going to ping the Mods. They obviously have their hands full

with many other weighty matters

-but seriously?

This thread deserves to remain up?

The line from Ray Stevens - The Mississippi Squirrel Revival

comes to mind: “-but then she started to talk about her love life

-and then she started naming names!”

(Blekk!!!)

“I always thought you got married to stop having sex. ;) /s”

Good one... That is just ahead of the definition of “divorce,” i.e. the screwing you get for the screwing you got!

Don’t get Me started, mate. This person is just frosting My bacon like you would not believe.

More, that it would deserve a thread of its own on FReeRepublic is just galling beyond belief.

If this person needs to not only “live the dream” but broadcast it here is so self-centered that it beggars belief about what most normal people believe, and I refuse to allow such self-justifying mental masturbation to stand without refutation.

I think this person needs to become bed-bunkies with Lorriannne and his pals and start their own website rather than drone on about how proud they are about not enguaging in sexual activities.

I’ve gone 12 days, and even 12 WEEKS!! :)

Does that count for anything?

But this person is seriously bent

and not in a good way.

I mean it.

Cheers.

So great that you’re happy alone, thanks so much for sharing here on FR, and enjoy your partnerless solitude.

Have you met Lazamataz ?

5 minutes and 30 seconds later, you would have to kiss your 12 years self discipline goodbye.

However, I admire people that make a decision to change their life and really devote themselves. I am glad you are happy. I helps cheer up my day.

God bless you, for such a courageous stand in today’s secularized world. There is so much pressure from our culture to always have sex, as if it’s a necessary ingredient to one’s existence like food. Certainly it’s necessary for the continuation of the species but to put it on the level of need like food water or air is to reduce ourselves our humanity to the level of an animal.

Your life is a shinning beacon of true love for self, something sorely needed in our broken world. Thank you for sharing this, you’ll never know all the people you’ve influenced with this testimony, but I’m sure it’s helped more than enough to make it all worth it.

Your post makes good points certainly. I do not wish my praise for her to be taken as an endorsement of the “single vocation”.

Indeed God calls us to one of two vocations, either a life of consecration to Him, or the vocation of Marriage. When I praised CorprateStepsister, I was assuming there was some kind of dedication of her chastity to God in there. And indeed chastity is to be commended regardless, even for one seeking a spouse but still single. So that was the main point of my previous post on this thread. To praise her dedication to be chaste in today’s sex-obsessed “culture”. And I still praise her for that (and thank her for sharing this so publicly despite some criticism she’s received for it, testimonies like this are needed, sad but true).

But your post is important too and should be considered. There is no calling to be “single”, we are called to serve Him, either through marriage or consecration. Everything else is still submission to secularism and the culture of death. So I echo and also endorse any sentiment that hopefully encourages an active search for a spouse or serious and public comittment to consecration to Him.
