I can't believe that you have NEVER heard of Alfred E. Smith. He was the FIRST Catholic to ever run for president and a dinner, in his name, is held as a fundraiser every 4 years, to honor him and raise money for St. Pat's Cathedral, in NYC. It has been televised, for many decades, or had clips from it shown.

Alfred E. Neuman, from Mad, was taken from a huge sign that was at the original Coney Island fun park, when it was a glamorous destination/playland, at the turn of the 19th, into 20pth century.

History...why doesn't anyone know much of it? *sigh*

Al Smith ran for President when he was Governor of Gnu Yak, This is a huge fundraiser for NYC Catholic Charities, White tie, and is generally an affable event with the intent to poke jabs at politicians. With Hillary and Andrew Cuomo attending (and speaking) It should carry an X rating.
