At the end of August, Secretary of State John Kerry told reporters that the U.S. was not interested in "fanning the flames of conflict but rather trying to encourage the parties to resolve their disputes and claims through the legal process and through diplomacy." Duterte has now taken Kerry's advice.
OUCH!!!
Do anyone think the US is going to go to war with China in the South China Seas? I don’t. So pretty smart for Duterte to get the best possible deal with China.
Average voter has no idea how much of a decline the USA is in. Our standing in the world is the pits.
China has been building up its de facto claims to the South China Seas for over 30 years. The US has done nothing across all the different administrations. China has the chess board ready for checkmate.
I wonder how that rude american ex-pat who lives in the PI is doing now over there.
Funny how the tables have turned on him, especially with Trump preparing to MAGA.
Who knows? Maybe, maybe not.
The Vietnam war was about keeping shipping channels open.
All in a day’s work.
Two things should be said here.
First: Duterte is a crude vulgarian. He has called Obama a “son of a whore,” and picked a fight with the pope. As a politician he is often compared to Donald Trump. As a president, he has acted like an authoritarian, waging a paramilitary war against his nation’s drug users and drug dealers.
Second: Duterte’s own government appears to have been kept out of the loop about this new alliance. On Friday, Duterte himself said he did not mean to imply that he would cut diplomatic ties with the U.S., but he has not backed away from his pledge to end military cooperation with the U.S., though others in his government have suggested he will back down.
Regardless, this is a big story. The Philippines has been an important U.S. ally since the beginning of the cold war. What’s more, the Obama administration has invested in the country as part of its pivot to Asia. In 2014 the two countries signed an enhanced defense cooperation agreement. When the Philippines brought a case against China at the Hague over China’s artificial islands in its territorial waters, the U.S. supported the Philippines diplomatically.
You can see it clearly with the MSM because of Trump.
Agree.
The Russian Reset.
The Asian Pivot.
All talk. All weakness.
I think there is more to this than the oceans
China is experiencing labor cost increases that affect their competitive rates.
China can outsource some jobs to the highly educated but low wage philippines.
Part of it can be about jobsi

Bad to worse.
Here we go again.
This is the cause of increased military spending and classic fascism.
The word "communist" in their title is neither here or their, against the ecnonomic reality.
BO (Before Obama) the US had allies that pretty much knew they could depend on when things got rough even though this has been on the decline since 1975.
AO (After Obama) the US- has zero credibility, no respect, no direction, no clear policy, no leadership and no clear understanding of realpolitik or how the world works.
All US allies are gravitating away from the US “Umbrella” support because it ceased to exist. Even our most reliable, steadfast, loyal and stable Democratic ally, Israel has taken notice.
If Trump does not win, this trend will continue until the US us reduced to a man-child status like it's current President.
REALLY! WHO TAKES THE US SERIOUSLY THESE DAYS??? The Philippines are scared of China so they are extending their hand to them. The same is true in the Middle East. The US enhanced Iran's and Russia's ability to wage war against her. Where's the logic?
Let’s not forget that China owns the Panama Canal too.

The Philippines, in particular Manila, have a large ethnic Chinese population segment.
Although there are Chicoms, increasingly, there are Chicaps. The Chi phils most certainly like all the other Overseas Chinese in Singapore and San Francisco and Taiwan, have been communicating with the increasing number of Chicaps to increase their internal trade.
Like you said, the Oligarchy can be damaged by such action, independent of communism or democracy. It’s business
Then there is another totally different component...... Chi youth. How ya goin to keep them down on the farm after they’ve got Daisey Mae’s ? Believe me.... the young women have them
For example, transvestites to the bathroom rescue.
