The worst of ObamaCare is yet to come
NY Post ^ | October 25, 2016

Posted on 10/26/2016 3:32:58 AM PDT by Zakeet

Word that ObamaCare premiums will soar 25 percent in the 39 states that operate off the federal healthcare.gov system is only the tip of the iceberg: The so-called Affordable Care Act is inflicting damage all across America's health-care sector - with no end in sight.

Just as critics warned from the start.

[Snip]

Still ahead: Budget crises in the states that accepted temporary federal bribes to massively expand their Medicaid rolls. More premium hikes on the exchanges, as ever fewer healthy people sign up for coverage - prompting even lower enrollment, and more price hikes, in a sharp "death spiral."

The "Cadillac tax" will kick in soon, too - so if your union has won great health coverage at the bargaining table, that plan will pay a penalty to Uncle Sam.

The legal challenges aren't done yet, either.

[Snip]

Now ObamaCare is collapsing, and presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton vows to "fix" it with new spending and even more Washington control of the market. If she gets Democratic majorities in Congress, she'll keep that promise - and the madness will grow.

Bill Clinton slams ObamaCare as ‘craziest thing in the world’

By Daniel Halper and Marisa Schultz

October 4, 2016

Bill Clinton has blasted President Obama’s signature piece of legislation — ObamaCare — as “the craziest thing in the world.”

You’ve got this crazy system where all of a sudden, 25 million more people have health care, and then the people who are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half and it’s the craziest thing in the world,” the former president railed at a rally in Michigan on Monday.

Clinton also said the system is hurting moderately successful small businesses — ones that aren’t doing poorly enough to be subsidized and fall just above the line.

“On the other hand, the current system works fine if you’re eligible for Medicaid, if you’re a lower-income working person, if you’re already on Medicare or if you get enough subsidies on a modest income that you can afford your health care,” Clinton said.

“But the people getting killed in this deal are the small-business people and individuals who make just a little bit too much to get any of these subsidies,” he added. ...”

Obama, 2003:

“I happen to be a proponent of a single payer universal health care program”

“I see no reason why the United States of America, the wealthiest country in the history of the world, spending 14 percent of its Gross National Product on health care cannot provide basic health insurance to everybody.

And that’s what Jim is talking about when he says everybody in, nobody out.

A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan.

And that’s what I’d like to see.

But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately.

Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

Obama's single-payer guru, Quentin Young

(he died in 2015)

Dr. Quentin Young, Longtime Obama Confidante and Physician to MLK [Martin Luther King]--source: Democracy Now

FROM "THE OBAMA FILE"...
RE: QUENTIN YOUNG

The primary figure who delivered Obama to the single-payer camp was Quentin Young, an 86-year-old retired physician who was a longtime friend and neighbor of Obama in Chicago.  Young joined the Young Communist League as a teenager in the late 1930s.  From the mid-1940s through the mid-1970s, he was closely associated with the Communist Party.  In October 1968 he was called to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee, which was probing the extent of his knowledge about the riots that had erupted at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago two months earlier.  The Committee accused Young of belonging to the Bethune Club, an organization for communist doctors; the group was named after Norman Bethune, a communist physician who devoted his services to the totalitarian regime of Mao Zedong

Dr. Young was active in the radical movements of the Sixties and Seventies and led a small delegation to Communist North Vietnam in 1972.  In the late 1970s, Young became associated with a Marxist organization known as the New American Movement, which was initially convened by Michael Lerner, an America-hating radical who counseled young people to explore the use of LSD and other hallucinogenic drugs as portals to a greater comprehension of socialist principles.

In 1980 Young founded the Health and Medicine Policy Research Group, a single-payer lobby group whose Board of Directors he chairs to this day.  In 1982 Young helped establish the Democratic Socialists of America, which, as the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International, asserts that "many structures of our government and economy must be radically transformed."  In 1987 Young co-founded Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), a single-payer advocacy organization where he currently serves as national coordinator. In PNHP’s view, government-run healthcare "should be financed by truly progressive taxation."

In 1995 Young attended the now-famous meeting at the Hyde Park home of former Weather Underground terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, where Barack Obama was first introduced to influential locals as the hand-picked successor to Alice Palmer, a pro-Soviet radical who planned to vacate her Illinois State Senate seat in pursuit of a higher elected office.  Young quickly became a friend and political ally of Obama, teaching the latter about the merits of single-payer healthcare.

In a 2009 interview with Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!, Young reminisced about the germination of his ideological kinship with the young Obama:

"Barack Obama, in those early days [as a state senator] -- influenced, I hope, by me and others -- categorically said single payer was the best way, and he would inaugurate it if he could get the support, meaning [Democratic] majorities in both houses, which he’s got, and the presidency, which he’s got.  And he said that on more than one occasion…."

Another noteworthy influence on Obama’s views vis à vis healthcare has been Dr. Peter Orris, who co-founded Physicians for a National Health Program with Quentin Young.  The son of a Communist Party member, Orris in the 1960s was a leader of Harvard University’s campus chapter of Students for a Democratic Society, the New Leftist organization that aspired to overthrow America’s democratic institutions and remake the nation’s government in a Marxist image.  He later joined the Communist Party (CP) for more than two decades, before ultimately shifting his allegiance to the CP splinter group, Committees of Correspondence, where he remains a prominent figure to this day.

* Helped establish the Democratic Socialists of America
* Co-founded Physicians for a National Health Program, an advocacy organization that lobbies on behalf of a single-payer, government-run healthcare system

I wonder about a long-term consequence that isn’t being discussed. Is this the end of innovation and personal accountability for health issues? Doctors are operating from a menu of what insurance companies will cover. People are running to the doctor for ailments they never would’ve before because “it’s covered”. How is that good in the long term?

Well, DUH!

So a few more folks have insurance payments. I am sick of hearing how “subsidies” keep those folks from being too hurt...Really?
The vast majority are simply making contributions monthly for those few.

NO ONE has real insurance. I mean, how sick are you to go through a $5000 deduct BEFORE your insurance pays anything?

They are mini-catastrofic policies that cost $700/mo.

What a effin bargain.

Was it all be design to create a disaster so that the only choice was. An expansion of Govt spending to take it over?

Or

They were just stupid and did not foresee that their pyramid scheme would not work?

Or

All of the above?

Dismal failure? More like a roaring success that has seldom been equaled if you understand WHY it was passed in the first place.

All of the above.

The socialists have obliterated the ethical/State regulated/ private/mutual Health insurance companies. Where are their sound, actuarial reserve funds? I wonder?

Next Government takeover = Automobile and mortgage insurance companies?

It’s just the opposite. They look at your party affiliation, age, etc. and then decide you will get no treatment. Just because you have insurance doesn’t mean you will be treated.

The rising Premiums are miniscule when compared to the rising Deductibles.

True. When people don’t get treated and can’t take the pain, they will readily commit suicide.

Not in my area. Bronze plan premiums went from $6K to $10K for a person around 60. The deductibles for a Bronze plan didn't change much. Still around $6.5K for the deductible.

That’s right; this wasn’t “health care for all”, but a new tax in the form of required health INSURANCE that few can use.

As I am self-employed, I had to purchase insurance through the exchange. The insurance company went bankrupt, so now do I not only pay a horrendous price (nearly 2k/month) for health insurance for my family with a very high deductable, I have the privilege of paying the tax penalty for a non-compliant insurance since the state of Ohio took it over with limitations outside the law.

I have been trying for weeks to find new insurance for next year. I can’t even get a quote on-line. It appears everything is on hold and the only quotes available anywhere are for the bridge insurance to cover a month or two (maybe if I qualified for a subsidy it would show). It appears I can’t even find a rate until November 1.

I think November 1 the s@@@t will hit the fan when people find out what they will be paying next year. A lot of Mrs. Bill early voters may decide they made a big mistake and try to find a way to change their vote (available, apparently, in a couple of states).

It makes me sick that this country could be so blind, so willfully ignorant...and some of its citizens so traitorous.

Indeed.
The stated goal was for at least 50% of the “newly insured” to come from expansions of Medicaid.

At present 2/3 of the “newly insured” have come from expansions to Medicaid ... so a huge success by their own metric ... and even more so if you consider that roughly half the states did not agree to the Medicaid expansion portion mandated in Obamacare (but struck down by the Supreme Court).
