(TEXAS TRIBUNE) Late this summer, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry strongly encouraged U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul to challenge U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's re-election bid in 2018, according to GOP sources.
The encouragement, which was relayed to The Texas Tribune by two Republican sources familiar with the correspondence, came around the same time that McCaul, an Austin Republican, emerged as a top potential challenger to Cruz's re-election efforts, amid an outcry among many grassroots conservatives over Cruz's decision not to endorse presidential nominee Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention.

I’m not jumping on this guy’s train, just looking at the info. Not thrilled with his trade stances from the quick look I took.

That is not surprising Cruz fooled a lot of people including me.

But he has crapped on the Constitution. Not only with his own sealed record run, but his willful efforts to hand treaty making powers to the executive.
He’s a good, strong conservative.
I strongly prefer any Republican over Cruz.

The Senate would never confirm Cruz for SCOTUS. He’s a constitutional conservative who actually believes in individual rights, Liberty, and a limited federal government.
McConnell wouldn’t even bring up Cruz for a vote.
Rick Perry also called Trump a cancer to conservatism. This was before he dropped out of the presidential race.

I guess in time we will see where this goes. I’m not shocked to see that there is already talk about putting up someone in the primary against Cruz.
