The first College Football Playoff ranking is out and the Alabama Crimson Tide are No. 1.
Alabama is followed by Clemson, Michigan, and Texas A&M. The first teams on the outside, looking in, are Washington (No. 5) and Ohio State (No. 6).
The biggest surprise is Texas A&M being ranked fourth, ahead of Washington. The Aggies are ranked seventh in the Associated Press poll after having lost 33-14 to Alabama. Washington is 8-0 and is the only undefeated Power-5 conference team that is not among the top four.
Interestingly, this ranking includes two teams from the SEC's West division, Alabama and Texas A&M, and only one of those teams can play in the SEC championship game. The playoff committee has shown in the past that they put a lot of weight on winning conference championships.
This suggests that the current ranking says more about where the committee thinks the teams are now as opposed to where the committee believes the teams will end up. In other words, don't expect both Alabama and Texas A&M to be in the playoff even if both win all of their remaining games and Washington probably still controls their own destiny.

East cost bias. We out West here are used to it, though.
If the top 5 SEC teams played the top 5 PAC12 teams, the SEC would be lucky to win 1 game.
OK, just trying to stir up trouble here :-)
Ha. ha.
Not a one.
I don’t know about you but I’m worried about this weekend and the last weekend. Both teams are playing significantly better than they were earlier in the year.
Roll Tide!!
Yea. They need to trade the bulldog in on a chihuahua. Instead of ARF! ARF! it is yip, yip this year.
Minor league NFL.
Well they’re 2 - 0 this year with A&M beating UCLA and Alabama beating USC...
Yup. LSU and Auburn will be tough.
If they played best against best and so on, I believe the SEC would win every game.
You never know for sure tho.

As I told my wife...don’t bother me on a Saturday in the fall...you’ve got 40 other weeks in the year...I doubt we’re divided about that...
M Go Blue!
Not even close ... it doen’t matter now other than motivation. When the Huskies complete their 12-0 run by curb stomping the Cougs they will be in the playoffs. No one’s head is exploding
Anyone remember this guy? I took the photo in Dothan around 1975. He was a decorated combat engineer in WWII.
Shug :) the best...War Eagle
Yes, Auburn has improved but they have been putting up big numbers on terrible defenses. Their offense didn’t fare to well against the better defenses they have played.
The Iron Bowl will decide if Auburn is for real or not. They will find it much tougher to run on Bama.
Roll Tide.
Sorry. Don't know.
I don’t think Texas A & M should get in. If one looks at it Texas A& M has been given the chance to demonstrate that they are better than Alabama and they did not. My guess for final 4 is Alabama, Michigan, Clemson and Washington.
I meant to say “Didn’t fare too well”.
The Four Conference Champions will be there, count on it.
