On the eve of the Chicago Cubs' attempt to end a 108-year World Series drought, a hero from the most legendary drought-busting Major League Baseball team took a seat behind Donald Trump at a Florida rally.
Johnny Damon, a center fielder from the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series championship team, waved a red "Make America Great Again" sign and cheered on the Republican nominee during the Wednesday rally in Orlando. Trump even gave him a shout out, calling him the "ultimate champion and winner" and "the great Johnny Damon."
For a brief moment before the rally, Damon addressed the crowd.
"People wonder why I like Donald Trump," he said. "I actually love the guy. Why? Because he likes winners, he likes to win, he likes everything to be great, not just for him but for everybody, and he wants to make America great again."
He later proclaimed that Trump would be great because "we need more jobs."

The goats and the sheep are separating themselves right before our very eyes. May God have mercy on us.
I saw that. Very happy to see this ex Oakland Athletic supporting the right candidate.
The lead paragraph needs to be updated.
I couldn’t stand Damon when he was with The Red Sox. He always looked like he crawled out of a dumpster. He went to the Yanks and Steinbrenner cleaned him up. He probably became a Trump fan due to Steinbrenner, a good friend of Donald’s.
Whoops, got it!
Cubs Win the World Series after a dry run of more than a century. Streets of Chicago resembling the world’s largest smurf village, a sea of blue people in joyous celebration.
Damon was a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice one season.
Maybe this will increase the value of his rookie cards I have.. .
Then he went to the Yankees. Effing Traitor.
I loved it when he played for the Yankees. He is a good guy. (and yes, he looked like a cave man when he played for the Red Sox.)
Good guy! I was with my family at an obscure village on the Riviera Maya eating at a small seaside restaurant. Up pulled a vehicle and Johnny and several of his guests hopped out and had dinner right by us. My 12 year old son asked him for an autograph (for which I would not have blamed Johnny for blowing him off given the vacation setting). Mr. Damon gladly obliged with a smile. We were fans after that.
Johnny and the Babe are the only players to have championships with the Red Sox and Yankees. I preferred him as a Yankee. Great guy and good to find out he’s for this country.
Great guy...And great player, too...
