Seattle won’t release its gun tax data to the public and you can probably guess why

You may recall that 2016 was the first year that Seattle began collecting a highly controversial “gun violence tax” on the sale of all firearms and ammunition in the city. The thinly veiled attempt to shut down gun sales survived one court challenge and is currently awaiting appeal in the state supreme court. The tax was ostensibly passed to fund a program at the Harborview Medical Center designed to “reduce the aftereffects of gun violence.”

So how much money has this scheme brought in to advance this important work? We have no idea because the city is refusing to release the tax data to the media. (Seattle Post Intelligencer)

Well, transparency? Kinda murky. You know, just a little. Kinda like the Mississippi river in New Orleans is just a "little" cloudy.

Isn’t that data — about public money — available through a Freedom of Information request?

Hmmm. Maybe it’s on super secret lockdown. One would think it would be public record but, seattle.

They probably collected $0. People buying guns legally went to dealers outside Seattle, and people buying them illegally probably weren’t too concerned about paying the tax.

I’d bet the money was either stolen or squandered. Politicians are very good at that.

From the article, apparently not much has been collected.

Probably more than they would like to admit.

But that’s only guns they have records of.

Anytime something gets regulated too heavily, the government pushes it underground. It’s called the *black market.*

Precise Shooter moved north a few miles to Lynnwood and Discount Gun Sales closed their Seattle store, leaving no stand alone gun stores in Seattle, which of course was the point of this ridiculous tax.

The owner of Outdoor Emporium, the only real gun retailer left in Seattle, was on the Dori Monson show (97.3 KIRO) yesterday. He say that his company sent the city $60,000.00 of the new tax money to the city. He also said, due to the drastic reduction in sales, they sent in $170,000.00 LESS in regular sales tax. In essence, a $110,000.00 revenue DECREASE. No wonder the city doesn’t want to publish the numbers. It proves the stupidity of their dumb law.

The same thing happens when they tax anything heavily.

People won’t pay it.

They’ll go somewhere else and it will just kill the business.

Seattle, the city just slightly less crooked than Chicago.

Don’t bet that it is slightly less crooked than Chicago. It’s every bit as crooked, but the difference is the ones who are crooked are either gay or female. Not many straight white people calling the shots there any more, which is interesting because the only people left to blame are themselves.

I figured as much.....result of tax is an overall decrease in revenue to the city. I've been in western Washington for the last 20 years, and have been in Seattle on non-business-related activities probably less than five times, so they have gotten virtually zero from my pocket. Now that I have retired, I am looking to move back down South, where people are sane. Central Texas is looking better and better.

Then folks in Washington must be real sheep if they’ll pay a secret tax....

Um, yeah, about that - THEY HAVE NO F$CKING CHOICE! It's public information. America is quickly becoming a dictatorship run by "aristocrats".

After forming our nation and governing it for centuries whites have apparently abdicated their right to govern. Then quite naturally blacks, Third Worlder’s and weird women move into the power vacuum. These inept peoples will misgovern. We have no one to blame but ourselves. To take governance back will require a fight-which is coming.

It’s not about color, it’s about culture that holds people back or propels them forward.

Nobody talks about lazy yellow people. They may make fun of an East Indian guy running a liquor store or convenience store, but that guy is still running his own business.

One of the commercial segment pieces they run on OANN quotes Malcolm X, who excoriates black people for continuing to back Democrats, who he implied had enslaved them electorially. Direct quotes in his own words on that station - powerful stuff.

Part of me believes X was killed because he didn’t get that this was exactly what the black movement was about - creating a constituency that would reliable vote their way in exchange for animal life to have sex with, drugs to get high with, and money to get by with.

Whites from Europe were sick of working hard for somebody else. They brought that work ethic to the US and made something extraordinary. What you are witnessing today is reversion to the mean. It’s not anything more nefarious or complicated as that.

When muslim culture takes hold here, it will destroy the place, as it has done in every other land it has taken root within. Bottom line.

It isn’t racial either - it’s ideological - like national socialism and the blood and honor laws in Germany - and it is them or you.

I suspect they received money and it was spent elsewhere.

End run around the constitution - you allow citizens to own firearms, of course... provided they pay a punitive tax for every one.

It’s a very popular mechanism for all would-be tyrants; you DON’T outlaw anything - you just tax it up to the sky.
