CLEVELAND-- Early voting in Cuyahoga County is down from the last presidential election, officials said on Monday.

Board of Elections Director Pat McDonald said about 38,000 people cast ballots in person ahead of Election Day this year. That number is down from 2012.

McDonald said he expects 595,000 people will cast their ballots in Cuyahoga County, meaning a 67 percent voter turnout. Of that number, 40 percent will have voted early.

The board of elections is working with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI to ensure and safe and secure Election Day. McDonald said he’s also reached out to municipalities, which will have patrols ready and stopping at polling places.

Also they are also 33,000 fewer absentee ballots compared to 2012. Another article says there were 45,000 early votes in Cuyahoga in 2012 and there are 38,000 early votes this year. So their combined deficit relative to 2012 is 7000 + 33,000 or about 40,000.

Not sure about Columbus or Cincinnati though.

Here’s the vote-by-mail labels in Cuyahoga:

Dayton, Ds are off 1/3, even AFTER adjusting for where “Us” go based on previous household voting history. In raw numbers, down probably 7,000 votes, Rs maybe up 1,000.
