I was wondering that too. I thought Trump won popular vote.
Totals last night did not fully reflect the counts from the West Coast & Hawaii, very large 'D' voters. Votes are still being counted but I think we can be sure that this will be another mismatch between Electoral and Popular votes.
This is one of the advantages of having the Electoral College, it makes for (mostly) a single day of counting. Our country is so large that an election on Popular Vote could be almost endless. Imagine a really tight race that depends upon the vote from the far Aleutians and the Pacific Islands that are east of the Date Line. That would probably be a good story plot if not already written.
