Cruz *might* have been able to win on the Rove strategy (OH, FLA, VA, plus reliable red states), but Virginia would have been just as tough, if not tougher, for him to crack than Trump. Cruz never would have taken the Midwest like Trump did.
I've been studying Trump's SCOTUS list. Some of the names I'm not especially enthused about, for reasons of either track-record or age. Mike Lee is on the list, as you probably know -- he is a bit of a skunk, but he's rock solid on life and the 2A, and he's only 45. I think I'd like to see him be Trump's first SCOTUS appointee. I certainly don't want anyone over 50 -- we need to hold onto the court for a long, LONG time.
I looked at the SCOTUS list also. At some point in the future I’d like to see Cruz added to that list. Not at this time for the Scalia spot. But we will have more to fill. I think Cruz could be a potential Scalia. He’s experienced before the Court, definitely doesn’t mind standing his ground even when wrong, and an originalist on the Constitution.
Yes, he ticked me off too at the convention. He’s ticked too many people off to likely keep his Senate seat. But I believe the SCOTUS is a better fit for him than either of those positions in the first place.
Virginia is going to be harder and harder for us to take. The federal government now has so damn many workers and lots of them live in Northern Virginia.
He would not have even tried.
That is one of the bad things about most of the other candidates this year, they had little to no imagination and they couldn't make bold moves when it counted.
Dr. Carson was one of the ones who could think outside the box but he was not used to giving persuasive speeches.
