A University of Louisiana Lafayette student who said she was physically attacked and robbed of her wallet and hijab made up the story, according to the Lafayette Police Department.
Public Information Officer Karl Ratcliff said police are currently reviewing the possibility of charging the 18-year-old student with filing a false police report.
The young woman filed a police report Wednesday claiming two white males approached her near the campus, in the 100 block of Smith Street, around 11 a.m.
She also claimed one of the males was wearing a “Trump” hat and they both yelled racial obscenities at her, police said.
As police began to investigate the student’s claims they did not locate any witnesses or surveillance video to corroborate her story.
Charlie Bier, a spokesperson for UL, told The Associated Press that the university could not comment on whether the student will face disciplinary action, due to a federal privacy law.
The story of her false attack went viral overnight, gaining the attention of national media outlets.

Upon Conviction of this Heinous Hate Crime she needs to be sentenced to whatever these 2 fake White Males would have been sentenced to.

Unless and until these hoaxers get prosecuted it’ll continue. A message must be sent that fake hate crimes will not be tolerated nor excused.
Conviction must carry the same sentencing range as that of the actual crime alleged to have occurred.

Possibility of charging her! It should be a definite action. Let a judge or jury decide if she is convicted or not, but definitely charge her. Her actions contribute to riots by people who believe this kind of lies.

Lock 20 or 50 up for 3x the maximum penalty their victims would have faced - this will end rather quickly.
