Gingrich mentioned the "popular vote" thing. He said that if Trump would have compted in CA and NY, he would have picked up another couple million votes. But there is no sense in competing there in a presidential race, so the margin of victory (in any given non-competitive state) will just get bigger over the long run.
My comment - Clinton won California, let it secede and she can be their president. Trump has the popular vote of the rest of the country.
