This doesn’t surprise me a bit. I visited Mindanao in 1985 (my wife is from there), and in those days most of the island was safe, because the Moros (Philippine Moslems) did not see Americans as an enemy, nor did their rebel movements target Americans. Alas, all that changed after 9/11, so my wife can go there again, but I can’t.

Yes you can bro. I am in Davao City, Mindanao as we speak. Just don't go past Cagayan De Oro. Many of the muzzies (not all) found out that kidnap for ransom pays off, so, many of them switched tactics.
