A campaign against 'mansplaining' by one of Sweden's largest trade unions has unleashed protests on social media by people who claim that the term is demeaning to men.
Unionen, which represents 600,000 private sector workers, is encouraging female members to call a hotline to report instances of male colleagues patronisingly explaining things to them, or 'mansplaining'.
Among those manning the phones will be feminist politicians, comedians and scientists.
In an article introducing the campaign, Unionen writes that a study by the American Psychological Association found that men "tend to overestimate their intelligence to a much greater extent than women."
"The study also showed that self-assurance in men grows with age," it continued. It claimed that the hotline would help both men and women "handle this kind of behaviour in your workplace."
But the initiative unleashed a flood of negative comments on Unionen's Facebook page, particularly from men.
"How would women react if you used words like 'old biddy chat' or 'female whining'? Equality can't be won using negative invective, but should be built using mutual respect and partnership. But maybe I'm the only one who thinks so," Daniel Bergman of Sundsvall wrote on their Facebook page.

Callers will have no way to tell if they got a comedian on the line.
We'd finally be able to regularly beat them in the Olympic hockey tournament.
And what happens then? Are the "mansplainers" fined, fired, or jailed?
Maybe if women would stop acting stupid to get men’s attention, men wouldn’t think women were stupid.
I assumed that this was some sort of joke, but it actually is for real. The Muzzies really are going to be taking over Sweden. The feminization of the descendants of Vikings is nearly complete.
What happened to just being happy a man was actually talking?
Women are from Venus.

It seems that some gals just can’t take men not being from Venus too. They refuse to understand that the sexes are actually different. Probably goes in with this define your own gender insanity. These gals are raving that these mansplainers are sexists? Well what about them arrogantly demanding that men act like women rather than bearing with us?
We only get so many words a day (by comparison) ... they should feel respected if we use up our allotment on them professionally rather than talk sports or cars amongst ourselves!
Maybe someone should mansplain it to them?
AsideL I’m betting a fair number of their seemingly emasculated men that surround them are just knowingly going along to get some, er, “get along”.

And that is why the metro-men of Sweden are putting up with muslim migrant rapes and assaults daily. Pansies all. But hey, Scandinavia is SO progressive and loves all and just wants World peace and tries so hard. Probably, one of the biggest hippie nations in the world. Pfft.
And a woman intentionally plays dumb or helpless, so the gentlemanly co-worker ‘splains something to them and, ah ha, the trap is sprung.
PC’s ugly head adds one more siege line to the battle of the sexes. Also a productivity killer. Heaven forbid a senior man tried to mentor a junior female. Why, it would almost be like training your replacement.

If they had tried a little harder they could’ve worked some racism angle into that as well. I’m disappointed in these slackers.
So the mere act of, say, a male boss explaining something to a female subordinate, will be a reportable offense in Sweden? This is crazy.

We frequently had drills for General Quarters.
After the notification of a GQ was stated twice, it was followed by “All hands man your battle stations”.
What do they say now, since there are females on board?
