States are a relic of the past. It’s time to get rid of them.
Washington Post ^ | November 15, 2016 | Lawrence R. Samuel

While Donald Trump resoundingly won the electoral college — the state-based “point system” we’ve used in presidential elections for more than two centuries — Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by about 780,000 as of a week out of the election. In other words, more Americans wanted Clinton to win, reason enough to revisit the wisdom of using the electoral college to determine elections. But a larger, more important argument is often overlooked in this ongoing debate.

...Clinton won the popular vote by about 780,000...

Back out the 3 million illegal votes for H> and the EC lines up nicely with the popular vote. No problemo.

What Washington won at Yorktown was the sovereignty of the American States. The Treaty of Paris (Treaty Of Paris clearly recognized the status of those States among the other Nations of the earth. The States later constructed the Federal Government for defined purposes. They did not adopt any right in that Federal Government to abolish the sovereigns that created it.

The Washington Post has become little better than a very bad joke as a newspaper. That they have no loyalty to the Constitutional Federation, called the United States of America, is sickeningly evident. This is not something that is really debatable.

How to revert CA and NY? Well, in the long term, I don’t think liberals reproduce very much, so we can out-breed them. That would also be the more entertaining way to approach the problem.

It was all in reach. Hillary would win and the transformation would continue if not complete. But then Trump won. In their panic, they jump to the end. Get rid of the states. Complete and utter centralized control. The Progressive dream. That has always been the plan.

But they lost. And America is saved.

“You just want your way, centralized inefficient dictatorial powers”

Exactly!! The whole Obama administration pointed in this direction and Hillary fully planned on being an autocrat.

The irony is that articles like this are coming at a time when California and other liberal states are either threatening to secede or not enforce new federal laws that Trump pushes through a Republican Congress.

The bottom line is, notwithstanding what this writer thinks, the country is very diverse and needs to devolve power to the states. That way, California can create its own Welfare State paradise while the more sane states stick with Capitalism. I’d also like to think that some states could legislatively enact gay marriage while others don’t but the Supreme Court imposed a “one size fits all” solution on the country for that. And look at all the trouble its caused.

The Washington POST is a T-H-I-N-G of the past and way past time to put it in the pullverizer and get rid of it.

I agree. States are a thing of the past. It’s time for Texas to secede. I think getting rid of the electoral college just might do the trick and push a few states away.

Funny that going into the election, convinced that Clinton had it in the bag, these people weren’t complaining. Now, after the fact, they suddenly want to burn the whole system down.

They did the same thing in 2000. They were convinced Bush would win the popular vote and Gore would win the electoral college. They were all prepared to make their argument that the Founding Fathers knew what they were doing.

You’re right! And California is a failed state, with lots of La Raza members and radical mosques!!!!

Besides that, once they “recognize” Trump’s win in Michigan, he will have won the popular vote, too!!!!

The Washington Post is worthless, as usual!!!!

He raises some good points about people living in the same state who really don't want to have anything to do with each other.

I wonder what the impact of one important change in the U.S. Constitution might be:

Just as states have a minimum of 3 electoral votes, how about a similar provision dictating that states can only have a maximum of 20 electoral votes? It seems like this would be an incentive for enormous states like California and Texas to break into 2-3 smaller (and more manageable) ones.

States are a relic of the past. It’s time to get rid of them.

Right, let's just re-do the entire structure of American government. Should take only about 200 years or so. Whenever Democrats lose an election, they lash out by demanding an end to the electoral college or an end to the concept of individual states. Then they import a few million more illegal aliens and tell themselves that shifting demographics will keep them in power forever.

I guarantee a lot of people stayed home because they didn’t think Trump could win. I almost didn’t vote in Texas because I KNEW he’d win Texas. But I went ahead and voted because I wanted him to have more popular votes and win Texas by a larger margin.

The base premise of this crybaby butthurt article is bogus. If all the votes from illegals and other fraudulent Clinton votes were removed and if all the fraudulently flipped, “lost” and uncounted votes were restored to Trump, it would become clear that Trump actually won the popular vote by a wide margin, too.
