Full Title: Michael Flynn, Trump's reported pick for national security advisor, sat in on intel briefings — while advising foreign clients

Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, who has reportedly been offered the role of national security adviser in Donald Trump’s White House, began receiving classified national security briefings last summer while he was also running a private consulting firm that offered “all-source intelligence support” to international clients.

Flynn’s relationship with his overseas clients is coming in for new scrutiny amid recent disclosures that two months ago, during the height of the presidential campaign, his consulting firm, the Flynn Intel Group, registered to lobby for a Dutch company owned by a wealthy Turkish businessman close to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.

Robert Kelley, the chief counsel to the Flynn Intel Group, read a statement from Flynn to Yahoo News on Thursday, promising that “if I return to government service, my relationship with my company will be severed, in accordance with the policy announced by President-elect Trump.”

But critics today dismissed Flynn’s pledge as “Too little, too late,” given that he began sitting in on U.S. intelligence briefings for Trump in August while working for foreign clients. Classified national security briefings are by tradition provided to the major presidential candidates and their top aides.

I know Flynn is a good man and would never compromise the interests of the nation.

However, this appears to be a legitimate conflict of interest, at least.

“my relationship with my company will be severed”

Not a conflict of interest anymore.

“Not 20 minutes ago, Don Lemon’s “Guest” was calling Flynn a “Crazy Racist”

Not relevant to the position or his selection. Leftists call all Republican racist.

However, he was employed to lobby for a Dutch firm owned by by a connected Turk while he was receiving classified briefings.

That’s the appearance of a conflict of interest any way you shake it.

I disagree. His lavish praise for the evil despot Erdogan is disqualifying for national security work, imho. WTF is wrong with Flynn?

The conflict of interest is quite severe and Flynn almost certainly knew better. This is a problem.

Flynn has to be considered disqualified for any appointment at this point, not necessarily because he once lobbied for Turkey, but because he wasn’t honest with the person who would be his boss.

Given the magnitude of how hillary Clinton operated, this s a nothing burger story. Assumes LTG Flynn was not eligible to have his security clearance restored to accompany Trump and that anything he learned would be leaked to foreign clients

We are either going to drain the swamp of interconnected interests, or we are going to follow the model of corruption.

There’s not a lot of amorphous middle ground there.

Flynn was over the line and should have known it. More importantly the transition team should have known it, as well as Trump, before the appointment.

IF he was even appointed. As far as I know Trump has not announced it...only some reporter claiming to know.

It’s just one thing after another with this guy. Total loose canon.

Trump is in a tough spot because Flynn came aboard his the Trump train at a time when a lot of beltway types were boycotting. I’m sure it’s tough for Trump because he wants to repay Flynn’s loyalty but enough is enough. Red flags all over the place with this guy.

It’s up to Trump to trust Flynn’s word. Trump’s been working with him for well over a year. IMO, this is no issue.

First they went after Bannon, now they are boring down hard on Flynn. I have no idea whether these accusations are valid or not.

There comes a time when we have to just wait, see, and not react to every squirrel running across our lawn.

If there is a problem with Flynn, I am sure Trump will sort it out. He is one of the sharper knives in the USA drawer, right?

They attack every which angle. Today, I heard cBS radio news quoting some group that Trump and his family had to divest all his businesses when he becomes the president because of some future conflict of interest.

BS...I don’t thinks so. I’m sure Trump will do his best to aviod such conflicts, but I don’t care one bit after Hillary and the other crony creatures of DC.

Trump is a man who spent around $100 million of his own money on his campaigns. He’s not in it for the money that for sure.

So you have evidence that Flynn passed on Intel received during classified briefings to the staff working in his company?

Right. Lt. General Flynn is not a traitor to the country. No evidence and he would not.

Erdogan is evil incarnate, but lavishing praise on him is hardly disqualifying for national security work. And I missed it. When did he lavish praise on Edogan?
