Jeff Sessions may prosecute ‘sanctuary cities’ if confirmed as attorney general
The Washington Times ^ | November 20, 2016 | Stephen Dinan

Sen. Jeff Sessions is on record saying so-called “sanctuary cities” that protect illegal immigrants should be prosecuted. He himself may get that chance next year.

Mr. Sessions is president-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be the next attorney general, and if he’s confirmed — a very large if, at this point — he will mark a 180-degree turn from the Obama administration on a host of issues, but nowhere more so than on immigration, where he’s been the Senate’s leading crackdown proponent.

From his first day in office, Mr. Sessions will have the power to strip some federal funding from sanctuary cities, thanks to rulings this year by the Justice Department’s inspector general, who said federal law requires localities to cooperate with immigration agents — and who provided an initial list of a handful of the worst offenders.

“The sanctuary cities thing is huge. I think most jurisdictions are going to fold like a cheap suit,” said Rosemary Jenks, government relations manager at NumbersUSA, which lobbies for stricter immigration laws.

Exactly. If you live in SoCal you know all too well how far along the dispossession of Americans has advanced in California.

In large sections native born Americans are a minority.

(Reading this thread and wondering...if they are successful and shut down sanctuary cities because if federal law violation...what about marijuana? There is a federal law banning it.)

“But there must be deportation as well or this is nothing more than a brief interlude before the country is as doomed as California is now.”

As a life-long Californian, I agree wholeheartedly. It didn’t take all that many years for the Reagan Government Policies here to go completely away. It isn’t a matter of jettisoning California, but rather jettisoning the RATs and the Illegals from the entire country including California.

It never ceases to amaze me at the ingrained pessimism of some here at Free Republic. It’s not that they don’t have a point but what is the point of casting gloom and doom before an event takes place?

We also have a gay mayor who is married to his boyfriend.

We are the champions in the weirdness department.

> Then, send the mayor and city councils to jail....

The interesting thing is that back in the 1960s, the federal government had to send in the troops to force Democrat mayors and governors to obey federal law to desegregate public schools.

They always seem to think the rules don’t apply to them.

Cutting off their federal money will get their attention.

Sending them off to jail for conspiring to violate immigration law will really, really get their attention.

It’s fun for them to talk big and posture for their leftwing No Borders supporters. But the prospect of being convicted and serving time is gonna give them a severe case of dry mouth.

The speed at which the change occurred from Beach Boys California to Blade Runner was astounding.

There was a brief respite from the invasion right after the 1986 Amnesty, but then the foreign nationals figured out soon enough that the GHW Bush Republicans and Clinton Democrats had absolutely no intention of doing anything to discourage more millions of illegals from pouring in. And pour in they did.

Who actually gets prosecuted? The city is just an area on a map. Is it the mayor? The city council? Or does it devolve down to a money grab from the citizens unfortunate to live within the city boundaries? I haven’t a clue. It’s not like you can send a city to prison.
