President-elect Donald Trump has said UKIP leader Nigel Farage would make a good British ambassador to the US.
Mr. Trump said 'many people' would like to see Mr. Farage as ambassador and he would do a 'great job".
Mr. Farage, who helped Mr. Trump during his U.S. presidential election campaign, said the suggestion has come as a "bolt from the blue", adding: "If I could help the UK in any way I would."
But No 10 rejected the suggestion, saying "there is no vacancy".
Mr. Trump tweeted: "Many people would like to see @Nigel_Farage represent Great Britain as their Ambassador to the United States. He would do a great job!"
Mr. Farage, who is UKIP's interim leader, was the first British politician to meet him after his victory, and said there was a "real opportunity" for improved UK trade with the US......
He said: "It's all a bit of a shock to me. No one had mentioned the idea to me but I have good relations with his team and if I could help the UK in any way I would."
Mr. Farage said he had good relations with Mr. Trump and his team and urged Mrs. May to take advantage of that....
A Downing Street spokesman said: "There is no vacancy. We have an excellent ambassador to the US."
BBC assistant political editor Norman Smith said he understood that Downing Street was adamant there would be no role for Mr. Farage.

I like the name Peter Hitchens has given her, "Chairman May".
If Trump wants Farage, I believe he will get it.
Are you listening Theresa?
This would be so freaking cool.
It seems to me that the US would have a say in who we would want as our ambassador. Farage and Trump are friends and this would be a win-win for the US and UK.
Yes it would. Watching Farage take on the EU Parliament on You Tube videos is like eating potato chips.
A man of Nigel Farage’s talents may have better things to do than hang out in Washington.
Seems like interference in internal British matters. Why can’t they chose themselves who they want to send as ambassador?
Since the anti-Trump contingent in the UK wouldn’t go for that idea, could Trump reverse the tables and make him the unofficial ambassador of the US to the UK? Seriously asking.
Won’t happen. British ambassadors are career diplomats anyway and pressing to make a politician and an opposition politician at that an ambassador is just rude.
Bing! Seems he would be more effective in-place.
An ambassador is supposed to represent the government abroad without their own personal agenda. If an ambassador is doing his own thing then he is just a chap living abroad and a representative of no-one.
Yea”your not laughing now!”
Yes. I guess we can’t tell the UK to let Nigel be the ambassador, but it would be nice.
Farage uses the English language like a scalpel. Funny as hell, too.
Morning after Brexit to EU Parliament => "Good morning!" (said with a huge s**t-eating grin)
Trump can do whatever he wants to and make the government of the UK look bad for dissing Nigel and the President of the United States.
The UK government that claims it wants to implement Mr. Farage’s goal of Brexit should be happy using him as an ambassador to the USA. But they want to pretend he is a non-entity.
I suspect the Corporatists who don’t want Brexit run the British government right now led by Theresa May and intend to fake Brexit in the end, its no wonder they’re dissing Donald Trump who is also a thorn in the Corporatist elites side by dissing Farage again.
No, she isn’t. Theresa May (”Chairman May”) as described by Peter Hitchens) wants to pretend Nigel Farage does not exist like the Chinese government would treat a democracy advocate.
Number Ten is doing a Number Two on the idea with statements coming out in the past few hours from a cabinet minister and her spokesman.
